How to D'OH in a few easy steps

-Have your main phone suffer a "tragic accident".
-Declare this shan't happen again and choose a Cat rugged dumbphone
-Few weeks later, need to take a picture, realize the rugged phone is .... a rugged dumbphone. Which does nothing for its VGA camera.
-Remember that your 10 year old camera also had a "tragic accident" involving beer a few years ago.

Number of decent photo-capturing devices in your household: 0

What I wanted to share:

Caring for your steel helmets collection 101.
Got a new addition, an old Romanian communist helmet. Obviously as dirty as the devil himself.
What one needs for the job:
-Flunatec/Ballistol gun oil for stubborn rust spots on buckles. Not to use on the outside of the helmet as it will damage the original paint which is almost always preferable to a new paintjob.
-Mixture of 50% rubbing alcohol - 50% Isopropyl - for cleaning dirt, grime, mud, skin fat and sweat marks, killing parasites, etc.
-Some sort of cheap, fatty, hand cream or makeup remover - mine's a local skin milk crap that does wonders for leather straps. This helmet's straps were 70 years old, cracked, dry and stiff as a board. Now they're like new and they smell pretty.
-Lots of rags.
-Silicone oil. Does not attack the original paint and makes helmets shine pretty!
-Cold, cold beer. Always useful.

Restoring old military gear is my favorite past time. Fun and relaxing.
