This place should have been a coal burning power plant.


The construction was abandoned with the fall of the communist regime. It was nearly done.

Since then, gipsies have been using sledgehammers to break it apart and gather scrap iron.
They have been doing the same thing with all abandoned structures around the country. The amount of work required to break pillars and ceilings by hand, with a large rock or hammers is insane. The price of scrap iron is well, almost nothing.

We're often bitterly musing, if we were to pay them to extract the same iron they'd complain about the back breaking work.
But since it's stealing not working it's all good.
Meh.

Inside the base of the tower. I have never felt a more pressing need to buy a decent camera with a panoramic lens. It just would not fit in the picture.
I should have used something for size reference but I had no time. The concrete ring at the base of the picture is about 3 meters tall.

Been getting hit by pretty serious headaches from time to time, usually when I haven't been eating well... possibly related to blood pressure or caffeine. Feels kinda like an icepick to the eye socket, plus the entire area gets inflamed and even swollen. It kinda sucks.

(Ex-)Chiro? Me too, not very long though. Our Chiro was notorious for the flameball tournaments, as soon as my parents heard, they sent us to boyscouts instead :p

Also Gilles is a relatively common french - belgian - possibly dutch name.
