No, I mean Neguinha, an expression for a young black girl. Negrinha is another version of the same expression, but neguinha is used more by my family as a sign of affection for my darker-skinned family members.

I'm Brazilian, not Portuguese, hence the use of Neguinha. Negrinha is not as... Respectful. Neguinha is actually affectionate, and in certain cases even flirtatious. Negrinha, not so much.

Its funny how different words in Portuguese, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese have absolutely different meanings. >_> For example, Rapariga(not sure how to spell it) means woman in Portugal and whore/prostitute in Brazil.

 My father always told me that as a native Portuguese citizen, he can understand Spanish, but people who understand Spanish can't understand him. I need to know if one-directional languages is a thing or this is just my dad being himself.

it has to do with the way one pronounces the vowels, from what i've been told even native brazilians have trouble understanding European Portuguese, as European Portuguese *eats* vowels, making it sound somewhat slavic. our unaccented a, e and o are all somewhat mute, making our sentences sound like an amalgam of consonants to our vowel enthusiast neighbors and transatlantic cousins
