When Hunter Thompson was running for Sheriff of some small town in Colorado, he was running against a hard-core, crew cut wearing, republican.  His solution was to shave his head completely bald and continuously refer to his political rival as, "My long haired opponent" to portray him as a dirty hippy out to ruin society.
