Given the penny, I'm going to guess either Texas or North Carolina.  Since it's a penny from 2010, it isn't one of those Carolina seventeen-year horde bugs, but it could be a plain old locust too.  Locusts get big 'round those parts.


Anyway, for posterity of all time, I have taken photos of myself wearing my 70s shirt.  Upon seeing, my mother's response was indeed, "hard night at the disco, son?"  For one brief, terrible moment, she stepped 34 years back in time.  I'm debating whether to post it, since there's enough photos of me floating around here as it is.

We didn't get too many cicadas this year in NC, which was disappointing because this was the Brood XIX (I think?) year, and it was supposed to be a big one. I'm in the Piedmont though, it might have been different elsewhere.
