I have no idea what it does, but that's really cool! Missed seeing all the weird little engines and machines at the local Model Engineering Expo this last weekend due to my schedule, but this is a nice substitute.

Yep. It's a mass-spectrometer and it needs liquid nitrogen for cooling, so it's all covered in white nitrogen vapours when working. My potato-cam couldn't register them at the moment, but it looked awesome. Even more awesome. The secret of model-engeneering such things is alresdy lost, I guess [Squarebraket of truth: because nobody needs them], and so they don't show brass smoky mechanisms at modern Expoes. They're wrong.

What's wrong with singular 'they'? It has a long and storied history for all you prescriptivists out there, and it's in very common use to satisfy descriptivists. So it should be fine unless your preferred period of English is the 19th century, in which case I hope to greatly anger you with this clause.
