Farm Animals
« on: January 28, 2010, 03:24:29 pm »

Part of a greater expansion mod, this mod aims to create more domesticated animals for use as pets and/or food.  Now you can cook with goat cheese or serve your dwarves turkey for Dwarvesgiving Day.

The List so far:

Chickens
Ducks
Geese
Goats [not mountain]
Llama
Pigs
Rabbit
Sheep
Turkey
Yak
Bison*
Kangaroo*
Ostriches*

The * denotes a creature that starts as wild animal.

The creature entries (place in creature_domestic.txt):

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

For them to work, some of these creatures need the following body parts added to body_default.txt:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I have researched the animals before creating their raw entries, but I am not an animal expert, so if anyone finds a glaring problem with my information, please say so and I will remedy it.  The same goes with any glitch or error of syntax you may notice.  Thank you for reading.

Hillariously I thought this was going to be a mod based on the novel

Which would certainly be interesting.

Somebody needs to do this.

This is a nice modding, however it has been done already :). Well, still it's ok.
Chariot's zoo mod
It's the mod I used as a part of my DG Genesis mod, and I am pretty sure many mods used it.

Well I'll be... you know, I looked before I even started working too, and couldn't find one.  Would have saved me some time.  :-\  Very impressive work, certainly beyond the scope of this mod.  The entries are different, even if they concern the same critters, I was particular about stuff like max age and body parts.  With the new raw format coming out this stuff will have to be redone so my list of animals will remain quite small until after the update.

Chariot beat me to other projects, it seems.  *eyes Dendrology*

There were Chariot, Luggage and 13erent who made almost all minor and major stuff like this :). So much you can do during a year-waiting period.

Still it's good, I used a lot of it when I made my mods.

Now if you could draw a cool graphic set to accompany your critters, that would make a huge difference.

That kangaroo kick is too mild. It's not uncommon for a kick from a pissed-off kangaroo to kill someone.

Agreed, I raised it to 1:6.  Any higher and they are humorously overpowered.  I know kangaroos hit hard, but they don't unfailingly reduce your entire body to gore in one shot.

1:6 for size 6 is quite a lot so It's ok.

Looks good, but I think that the ostriches prefstring should be 'large eggs' rather than 'eggs'. <_<

It now reads "ponderous eggs."

More prefstrings are always an option.  They aren't limited to just one, and when there is more than one, the game selects them at random.

Alright, yeah, the front paws are more like forelegs after all, so quadruped is probably the better way.  But I feel this thread requires Animal Farm jokes.

Man, that mod would be awesome
You could mod pigs in as nobles with insane demands (100 bauxite crowns, 500 barrels of sunshine)

All dwarves are created equal.
Nobles are more equal than others.
