WC3 was decent, but my first love was Total Annihilation.  The twisted burnt metal wreckage left after every battle, the bombastic orchestral score, the ridiculous arms race culminating in nukes, and none of this limp-wristed "ghost" crap to designate nukes either: just click on the radar map and erase those dots from existence.  Opponent building anti-nukes?  BUILD MOAR NUKES.  D-gunning with the commander, and so on.  Destroy all Arm units.  DO SO NOW.  Ah fun.

Then for different reasons, Homeworld, which I decided to start playing again.  It's amazing something so slow-paced should be the hardest RTS I've ever played.

Supreme Commander (with a couple modifications) captures the charm of TA pretty well.

Granted, you need a pretty decent rig to play it, but I enjoyed it.

What mods do you recommend?  I'm planning on picking up SC sometime, now that I have said decent rig.

The SCA UI mod, mainly. The stock SupCom UI is very cramped, and this mod improves it by 100%.

im down for some WC custom maps tonight. I played DoTA last night for the first time and had fun, and pretty much ignored what people were yelling at me. After a whil ei kinda got it, then went back and read up on some strats/builds.

Im interested in trying some of the other custom maps with folks who arent too hardcorish. Anyone in?

Well I have recently come into contact with my third copy of WC3, this one being a gift, thanks Someguyo, and I'm willing and able to host some really obscure favourites for all you guys, since it seems very few people can host stuff nowadays. Only thing I'm not a fan of is DotA but I'm willing to host that too, not like there is a shortage of games for that, though.

So! Anything anyone wants me to get?

I was away for the weekend, anyway, I'd be happy to play some games. I'm Snicker-Snack on Northrend.

do you have age advancement TD? it is the longest TD I have ever seen, and probably the best. Unluckily, I lost the map :( I used to host it in the past.
Unluckily at the moment I can't host anything. I used to be able to, but it seem that the ports I used are no more good enough:(

I'm not sure about you guys, but I -love- the Dawn of the Dead map(s).  I don't load up WC3 all too much, but it seems like they're devastatingly underhosted.  Can we change that?

You're officially ultra awesome, for both working on Phase Killer, and also for knowing about it! I love Phase Killer! What did you do?

I know I posted this before, but if anyone has an extra WC3 key lying around, I have the expansion but can't find the original game for some reason even though I have the box.

If not I guess i'll buy a key online.

I didn't do much actual development. (mainly I had Ideas for items and some triggering) I did the majority of the moderating on the old PK section of PoLlama.com before Dark Revenant moved to his own site.

Galactus/Silver Surfer thing?

Maybe I'm just not familiar with the comics, but was there something like this in the game?

Or are you talking about Medivh and the Burning Legion?

I hated Warcraft 3's regular gameplay, and cheated through the campaign.  I can't stand micromanagement and I really wish units would just take the initiative and do something on their own so I don't have to stretch myself thin.

Custom Gameplay, on the other hand.  I loev custom maps.  Parasite, Zerg Infestation, The occasional game of Risk, I played all of that stuff.  I used to be really good at Parasite, and knew all the tricks for getting them to kill their comrades.

DotA sucks.  I have never seen people more fanatically obsessed with something so trivial.  If you die within the first five minutes or so of the game they scream at you and restart.

I enjoyed the campaign. It's nothing epic (unlike, say, the Starcraft campaign) but it's solid. The micromanagement is really a big part of the game and I honestly wished for better individual unit AI. It's truly a pain to have to micromanage every bit of a battle you have perfectly prepared for and then lose to the computer's unit spam when you have all the components of a victory on hand.

Custom games were the best feature of any game I've ever played, and it is a fact that DoTA spam hosters ruined the custom game lobbies for everything except DoTA. Blizzard made multiple attempts to covertly stop them with little tweaks to the game through patches early last year, but I don't know how that went.

I really think DoTA has gone from a fun little aspect of the WC3 community (2004-2005) and a fun game to an abusive community of obsessive elitist assholes. And that's being nice.
