Running water, sewers and getting rid of the waste.

If you can have sewers, then it would also be nice to have running water. As a luxury or for certain workshops, like the kitchen or the metalsmith forge.
With running water dwarves could get happy thoughts and also more health, a kitchen with running water could make food that has less chances of sickening the dwarves, after all how can you make healthy food if the dwarves spend their day inside with animals and vermin, and a forge would work faster because they wouldn't spend time on waiting it to cool off or maybe they could make metal bars faster. Metals should also have quality bonuses, with a diference in strength like 10% and for steel an even greater diference.

I don't think the chasm should have infinite storage space, If you can fill the bottom with lava, then if you would fill it with sewer water then it should constantly spew miasma. Diverting the sewage into the outer river should cause the other races to complain and ultimatly siege. Throwing sewage into the cave river would contaminate it, depending on how much sewage water thrown in there it shold take more time. You could insinerate it in the magma but it would make deadly steam. Another option would be to contain it in GIANT rooms spanning many z levels, then lock it up and throw magma in leaving obsidian, or not, considering the steam it would make, if you seal it with weak materials the doors, flood gates, etc... would give in and steam flood the world.
