I think the closest you're gonna get is Arena Mode in the next version.  Can somebody confirm the name for me?

It's kind of long wait though.

From the last devlog I think that Toady plans to move closer to the final release of this version in march, so it's probably march-april. Just a few months, yay!

Actually, he did not specify any kind of time estimate at all. The "march" he refers to is an action, not a date.

Toady never mentions official release dates.  From what I gather he doesn't like having to deal with the mess if he exceeds them.

Though somebody in the FOTF thread mentioned an estimate of about Febuary 16th and Toady said that it sounds about right.  "Within the year" is just the correct answer to that question.   

And the superstition is that every time somebody asks how much longer til release, the game gets pushed back by a day.
