IT'S THE FUTURE MAN.

If that's the future, I'll make my stand with General Ludd.  I'll not march to your false Utopia of standing around in the street with your willy in your hand.

I could never do that.  I have trouble peeing in public restrooms, but out in public where everyone and their hot sister can see?  No, it would be impossible.

Also this.

Cowofdoom's argument reminds me of high school when they banned cell phones because kids wouldn't stop texting in class.  They made no attempt to hide it but still thought the teachers didn't notice.  One girl said "What if there's an emergency?" and everyone was agreeing with her.  Apparently emergencies only started happening after cell phones.  That or back before cell phones if you had an emergency it was game over.

Would you rather drown in a street full of hobo urine, unbeliever? WOULD YOU? BECAUSE THAT IS THE LOGICAL ALTERNATIVE!

Put enough beers in someone and anything is possible! Well, not literally anything. But urination for sure.

Why it there this kneejerk LOCK THE THREAD NOW! reaction to this? So far it seems that everyone is just yelling about how someone is going to take this badly? Honestly can't we have a conversation about a controversial subject with everyone freaking out?

I agree that it's a bit crazy some of the things they do and some of the restrictions they have. I mean, I know a guy who was placed on the sex offender list for years because when he was 17 he had sex with his 16 year old girlfriend. I mean, thats fucking retarded but thats the law, we basically regard all offenses the same regardless of age difference and type of offense. In other words 2 underage people having sex consensually is equal to a 50 year old molesting a 10 year old for years.

Thats not to say restrictions should not be placed on actual offenders, but it should be handled case by case, not in this carpet bomb effect we have now.

In my experience yes. Usually for about a page and a half before things go to shit.

Better to err on the side of caution?

Saying american society punishes sex offenders too harshly says it punishes pedophiles and rapists too harshly.

I don't think you'll find anyone, regardless of religion or social status, that condones that. Except maybe sex offenders themselves.

I do think statutory rape should be taken more lightly though, in cases when the offender is 19 year old and the "victim" is 17, or even 16, 15 is maybe a bit too much. And chemical castration for pedophiles should be thought over a bit more, maybe keeping it only for people who have a serious disorder and will never be able to "heal" themselves from it.

Otherwise, I think sex offenders are punished fairly right now, and I'm an atheist liberal.

That happens a lot.
Doing that, unfortunately, seems to make you guilty of every single offense related to child pornography.
Production, possession, and distribution.
Occasionally child molestation for whatever unknown reason.
"These children are molesting themselves by taking nude pictures! We must ruin their lives forever by putting them on the Sex Offender Registry."

But yeah, pretty much all laws are convoluted and subject to misinterpretation/abuse.
It's pretty horrible.

Quite possibly the greatest problem with U.S. law regarding sex crimes is it lumps these people (among others)
statutory rape...  cases when the offender is 19 year old and the "victim" is 17
with these people
pedophiles and rapists

That wouldn't be so problematic if we didn't treat them all like these people
pedophiles and rapists
on account of everybody and their brother assuming, when they hear "sex offender", that the offender is one of these people
pedophiles and rapists

People pee in the street. Mostly drunk people and hobo's, but it happens. And then, you're walking along minding your own business and you step in hobo pee.

This is, of course, in the future. In the future all food shall be taken in through IV lines.

And yeah, the law itself seems somewhat fair in regards to severity to punishment. It is the lumping of people who don't necessarily fit the criteria of the person they are punishing with the people who deserve the punishment that seems to be at issue here. In which case the issue seems to be more who is defined as deserving of this punishment rather than every part of the punishment itself.

I think the whole crying about how we need to 'lock this topic' is because ThreeToe and presumably Toady are very much against pedophilia. However, this isn't trying to justify sex offending so we should be okay.

As for me, I think sex offenders in terms of rape and pedophilia should be punished as harshly as possible (short of capital punishment) but the process to determine who's a sex offender needs to be far, far more rigorous.

How high are muggings in that area? I mean, I know of at least one man who hauled off and broke a guys nose for not obeying the men's room code of conduct.
