I thought the professional scrabble players used the Oxford English? I seem to recall watching a program on it, you wouldn't believe how many 2 letter words are acceptable.

Jreengus: I dunno. I believe they use the Tournament Word List, which was created when said dictionary was released, and, unlike it, contains the 'offensive' words. (There're multiple 'official' sources, and I'm not a tournament Scrabble player...so I can't really say.)

As for Scrabble words, words are words. Whether something is a word is something that affects play and scoring and strategy. The only explicitly-excluded words by the rules are "capitalized words, words marked as foreign, abbreviations, or words requiring an apostrophe or hyphen".

Additionally... I believe that "lezzy" is an abbreviation for "lesbian," so there you go.  And yes, I meant "discrimination and acceptance" (or perhaps "treatment of lesbianism by society," if that removes the diction issue).  None of that crap they tried to pull with Turing.

Reading the DSM was actually a common enough problem that it became interstudent advice at that university not to...

...it still sounds like it's the "Turing crap" or one of its newer incarnations. But I don't see any obvious fixes.

I would find myself more as liberal, but probably separate enough from them to almost be called utopian.

I would assume the world gets better as it nears a utopia, then would crash and burn if it achieved it

Learned about it in psych class two years ago.  As far as reading the DSM goes, I'd rather read that than affix labels to behaviors based on hearsay.  It's a good tool for calibration.

Yes, well... people shouldn't do it, but they do.  I'd rather have them using it as a diagnostic device than hearsay from the internet ("moodswings = bipolar, right?  Quiet, good at science, and can't get a date = autism, right?").  It's easier to prove somebody wrong if they're using the correct terminology.
