The idea is it's a large scale, long term campaign, except so slowed down that you only need to check it once or twice a day, so that people don't have to match their schedules up in order to play it, nor are they stuck in a sequence with others, so that a single person can hold up the game. It's actually quite ingenious, when it comes down to it. As for whether or not the gameplay itself lives up to that, I suppose I'll see after playing for a week or so.

Game 148: Gamma Giennah

I've been promoted.  A captain of an expedition fleet of all things.  Today, we embark for the Heze star system.  To think, I would have the honor to colonize a new system.

We've already colonized Mimosa, Ras Algethi and Mebsuta and already are pushing outward to newer systems.   We've sent colonial fleets to Kaus, Giennah and Minchir... along with numerous survey personal and equipment to comb the planets for resources and suitable settlement locations.  Though, some of this survey equipment I do not recognize.  Sent with the emperor's personal unit.  I've been briefed that they have autonomous jurisdiction when they are on-world.  At the very least, it is made clear that I am in command when they are on-board the fleet.

Despite my ponderings morale among the crew and colonists are high.  It feels as if nothing can go wrong.

... I have some suspicions that we may not be alone.  Classified reports from one of the newer colonies, Mimosa, speak of the remains of rusted... refined metal.  A different kind, but similar to the hulls on our ships. 
Will they be friendly?  Or hostile?  Will we even be able to communicate?
I hope my worries are unfounded.  But, if we do encounter aliens... hostile aliens... I shouldn't worry about it now, this is supposed to be a happy occasion.

On another note, rumor has it, the emperor is looking for the secret to immortality...  It has spread among the officer's corps like wildfire.  A hot topic since it is said to come from the very top of the chain of command.  I wonder if there is any truth to it.... does it have to do with this odd equipment and his personal men?

Im in 4 games now and so far, this has been very fun. In at least one of my games the diplomacy is already quite interesting!

Game #154: B12ers UNITE! we shall crush all before we face each other!

ALSO:
I am liking it enough to have gone ahead and purchased some game tokens. I can now create premium games and join premium games. The advantage is custom settings and so forth. If anyone gets to the point of doing the same, and we have hgad some experience, I say we have a B12 game with some epic settings.

In premium games, you can accelerate the payout timer all the way to every 4 pays every 24 hours. (payout per 6 hours...MATHS!)
