I think this is probably more a balance thing than anything.  Look how two marines cooperating can dominate deathmatch.  Imagine 16 against AI aliens.

They have every possible lane of fire covered, including some that only exist in theoretical dimensions, 100-round clips.  16 guys would be unstoppable.  Even a queen couldn't take more than a few seconds of 16 pulse rifles and grenade launchers.

I guess then they'd have to design better AI and levels...

Or they could just leave it with four, 16 is very excessive.

Sometimes it seems like you live to be bitter at consoles and developers.

Yes, that's definitely the easier option.  Making it work with 16 players would require more effort on their part.

Yes, calling attention to problems with a game is totally irrational.  The fact that I don't like most anything made these days is clearly a sign that I simply have decided to live to be bitter, because I want to, and couldn't possibly be based on any sort of reasoning.

I'm not sure why I bother trying to argue...  I should have just said "Sometimes it seems like you live to defend all things recent and mainstream."

Well think about it.  If you can play it splitscreen you don't need to have multiple copies to enjoy multiplayer.  People (well people with money) are idiots who will buy anything.  It's probably much more profitable to force them all to buy separate copies if they ever want to play with other people, and while they're at it they're force them all to buy separate consoles as well.  And since a full screen looks allot better than a split screen, there is absolutely nothing whatsoever than anyone could ever complain about.  Unless they're gay;)

It's terrible.

I bought it this morning, played it today.

Sure, it's great for an action game, but there's really no tactics to it.

Go here. Why? Queen said so.
Kill him. Why? Queen said so.
Break the lights. Why? So they can't see you. So? They're useless anyway and die in a couple of hits.

Splitscreen? Not available. xBox Live required, therefore two copies of the game to play with your brother/cousin/nephew/friend/etc.

Survival Mode? Here. Wait, I *have* to be the marine? Fuck. Here's a gun and a sidearm, oh, and a tiny, useless flashlight. Have fun in that dark room.
FFFFUUUU.

I'm not impressed at all. I only wanted it to play with my nephew, after we've pretty much played the shizzle out of L4D (Whereas L4D2 was also absolute rubbish).

i'm glad I'm no the only one who thinks l4d2 was crap :P

I've almost finished the marine campain in AVP. Wouldve beat the game entirely except that playing it pains me so. The game has commited the cardinal sin of game controlling. Something i find to be the most maddening, infuriating, irritating thing in video games. Every person i know who plays alot of games dispises this, and we cannot fathom how devs keep putting this in games.

Not sure how to explain it, but i can instantly tell when a game does it. If you move the control stick a litle bit, its sensitivity is normal. If you move it alot the sensititivy changes to make it move much faster than you want. So aiming is really difficult, because you cant fine-aim quickly.

In a game like AVP where you're fighting facehuggers and things up on the ceilings and walls jumping around it makes it such a pain in the ass. Using the sniper rifle in the game was far too fiddly for me, so thats one gun i find pretty much unusable. The flamethrower is a joke. Set the aliens on fire, and they run at you and explode into flaming acid. Whoo.

Last time i stopped playing, it was because i got to a lift, the doors opened, two enemies were inside. I shotgunned one in the face and it didnt register because the door animation wasnt finished yet... As soon as it was he insta-killed me with a sniper rifle. ¬_¬ The game is full of annoying little things like this. I fell through the floor in one level and had to reload my checkpoint. So I wouldn't call the game polished.

It's a shame, because it's quite atmospheric. The narrative is pretty throw-away, but it's kinda what I expected. I really wanted to like this game, but its just so annoying to play. Hopefully the pc version will be less crap. :P

i pretty much only used the piles rifle and shotgun. Just do short bursts with the pulse rifle and your set.

As i said, the crappy variable-sensitivity thing on the controllers made using the sniperrifle pointless. Couldnt hit anything with it taht wasnt standing still anyway.

I'm happy to say that they didn't pull a Halo... Where the pistol is more powerful than anything else. The pistol was a sidearm, a last resort, as it should be.
The pulse rifle fired pretty much where I wanted it to, which was a breath of relief compared to most games.
The sniper rifle, as previously said, was a joke. I only found it useful for taking out the android 1-hit-kill-me before they saw me... when they did anyway, but their aim was still off at a distance.
Flamethrower is good for boiling eggs, but otherwise useless... Mind, when the

Or just burn, make them chase you into that infested place, then use them as a walking bomb.

In fact, my first post about the game was because i'd played aliens and predator, not marines... It's obvious they spent all their time working on the Marine Campaign, and then did Aliens and Predator rushfully in the time remaining, because the Marine Campaign is actually alot of fun, till it starts to grind.

Time to finish level 1, aliens? 5-15 mins.
Time to finish level 1, marines? 15-30 mins.

Amazing.

What was really fun about Marines was that your in this dark corridor with several others shooting off, you don't know where to look till the bleeper goes off next to you. You turn around, guns blazing, to find your pulse rifle shots skipping off the fast-dissapearing tail of a Xenomorph.

Facehuggers. What. The. Fuck. You have to melee them about 10 godamn times. So when you reach the

STOP CALLING ME A GODAMN ROOKIE!! It's not like I just killed 20 xenomorphs, on my own, with a pistol and a billion flares, like.

I finally got a chance to play the campaign.  It's alright, I haven't done much with the marine yet, but predator and alien are pretty cool until late game when all you get to fight is Synthetics.  I don't like fighting Synthetics, I like fighting humans.

Also, you can kill a synthetic instantly by cutting its throat, but if you decapitate it with a disk it gets right back up.  What's with that?
