Yes, possess the chains. Also, try to rip them out of the walls.  8)

Enter the chains.
Focusing, you try to manipulate the chains somehow, but fail to disturb them in the slightest.  They only seem to respond to attempts of pulling away, and you try to approach the far side of the cell you are in.  At first, the buzzing returns as the chains seem to stretch, then a feeling of nausea washes over your awareness.  Perhaps the chains can be broken with enough effort.

Ignore the buzzing, keep pulling.
Pulling harder, the buzzing becomes louder and louder, and is suddenly replaced by a loud keening.  The whole cell seems to lurch violently, walls shaking off more layers of filth then seemed present, then everything darkens.

Awareness flickered for a moment, seeming to stretch for eons, and slowly grew stronger.  The world resolves itself around you, and feeling rather battered, you look around.  Stretching in all directions is a perfectly flat surface, consisting of something like sand.  The place feels wrong, somehow, but you also feel a strange sense of happiness at being here.

Move forward
Though you're rather unsure about where you are, you attempt to move in a direction, and the landscape seems to slowly shift around you.  In the distance, you see something that breaks the otherwise perfectly flat landscape, though you cannot tell what it is.

Move quickly towards the oddity
The object quickly comes closer, and as you 'stop' yourself in front of it, you examine it carefully.  It appears to be a perfectly white stone pillar, seamlessly melding with the ground where it stands, and standing perfectly straight.  It is difficult to tell how tall it is, without something to compare it to, and seems to be completely unmarred.

You try to touch the pillar, but as soon as you feel you are in contact with it, the world flashes white and suddenly you are surrounded by grasslands, receding into the horizon as the previous desert did.  The grass itself seems to be yellow, with a vague reddish tinge, and a pillar appearing to be a perfect copy of the one in the desert sits next to you, with a small clearing in the grass surrounding it.

Poke it a few more times, then choose your favorite background.

You 'touch' the pillar several more times, but the effect does not repeat itself.  Attempting to push on the pillar itself proves it to be seemingly immovable, and does not cause any other reaction.

Inspect your surroundings carefully. If nothing interesting presents itself, attempt to set the field on fire.

Looking around further, the grasslands themselves seem to be swaying slightly, and farther into the distance beyond the pillar, they seem to be slightly different in appearance.  The sense of wrongness returns more strongly, and the happy feeling seems somewhat dimmed as you continue looking.
