In the middle of flat plain, the archeologists find a large magma pool, apparently artificial. From the pool rises two obsidian towers. Two bridges lead to the first and smallest tower, which is adorned with dozens of statues. Stairs run up along the outside of the tower and at the top is situated an alter. Copious bloodstains suggest that it has seen much use.

Another bridge leads to the other tower, a squat form with a ragged top. Construction clearly hasn't been finished. Inside a grand staircase leads upwards, while two smaller stairs lead down. Burned bones and barrels lie around. Soot is everywhere.

Taking the stairs down, the archeologists come down to a chamber with a wide glass window in the floor, below can be seen the cavernous chamber at the top of a magma pipe. More soot stain the ceiling. Moving into a north passage, they finally come to the catacombs. Ten dwarves to a chamber, dozens of chambers.

Even dark dwarves have bad days.
