Edit: If you're still in embark mode, could you change the surname of the dwarf, not give him a nickname? The relevant words are Stretched and An-urk.

Sorry guys, I'm only taking seven initially.  I'll make more when I get there.  As for Akigagak stretchedan-urk or whatever, I can't actually change last names without using Dwarf Companion or whatever, and I'm really terrible at getting those damn programs to work.  This is a Minimal Effort Community Fortress.  Everyone gets a nickname, that's it.

So yeah, dogs, plump helmets, wood, and lots of booze.  Just for kicks, and because there's already plenty of barrels at the site, I won't be abusing the container thing.  How long guard dogs will last against undead hippopotami I can't say, but they'll make good eats like everything else.

Yeah, I haven't had too much experience with the undead.  I imagine the random piercing damage inflicted on them by War Dogs won't do too much, but ya never know.  Always nice the have a literal and metaphorical Meat Shield.

Like I said, it recalculates every time I opened the Reclaim screen again.  Originally I got 28, then 42, then 14, then 7 over and over until I decided to go with it.  It's (loosely) based on the wealth value of the site, and Tombcities had literally just the default embark supplies, a hole in the ground, and some hippo bones.  It wasn't worth much.

Besides, seven dwarves, armored though they be, will be more challenging.  I'll get another 20-30 by year's end anyway.  And goddamn do I hate these forum slowdowns.

Look, we don't need the war dogs to DEFEAT the malevolent hippos, they just need to slow them down until we can get everything indoors and lock ourselves in.

Assuming, of course, that our reclaim party is pretty wimpy in the killing-stuff department.

I suppose my liking of War Dogs is a symptom of the fact I never take an anvil, meaning I have far more points than I ever actually need to spend.  I just dump the rest into Dogs and watch them fight with the local creatures.
