When I figure out the new version, my cruelty will know no bounds.
For example, we play as dwarves. Dwarves often go mad. Dwarves can be surgeons, thus it follows that we will have mad surgeons.
If we add that to a room of elves and assorted weapons and animals, FUN ensues.

Heh heh heh. "Kill Orders". No more stationing my troops next to where I think the gnomes are headed. Same goes for Goblin stragglers

No more having to zombify the elves to get my soldiers to kill them for bringing nothing but mountains of cloth when my primary export is cloth.

Okay, I already see how your champion walks up to an elven diplomat and kicks him down a bottomless pit!.. Oh wait, we have no more bottomless pits... It's quite sad actually, I loved that feature.

Anyway, we will be able to do the "Spartaaaa" type justice to an elven diplomat who dares to come to our fort to discuss OUR trees.
TONIGHT WE DINE IN GLOWING PIT! And you dine in a refuse pile, elven jerk ^_^.

I'm not sure that they're gone entirely.

Just find a 20 z-level hole that ends in magma.

I would call a 30 z level pit that terminates at a raising bridge linked to a pressure plate in the doorway to the booze stockpile a bottomless pit.

They're gone entirely. There's now magma on bottom layers (if I remember right, about 50z levels normally) and maybe there's some more fun there which is HFS for now.

The only one who isn't looking forward to it is my girlfriend.

I know how you feel.  Dwarf Fortress is the Apex Predator of Nerdiness.  It's going to take some serious trust for me to ever admit to my gf I play it.  Like "married 10 years" kind of trust ...

There's magma lower down. I don't recall hearing that it covers the entire bottom layer

I show my girlfriend Dwarf Fortress within a week. It's a trial by fire kind of thing; I'm still waiting for one to recognize it before I say anything.

I once dated a girl who played.
She told me she didnt like kobolds, and thought killing cats was terrible.

I ended it soon after.

Mine is mostly perplexed at how I can make sense of the Ascii graphics. She seemed to like the Visual fortress and Stone Sense visualizers though.

Of course, we are talking about a girl who plays DnD and spends nearly all her free time reading fantasy books. So I think I'm safe.

I don't know either it's a whole lower level, pockets or "magma pipes" with a "flow" at the bottom, but at least it should be possible to drop critters 50z levels down into magma. Still good.
