Tapestries, the human engraving
« on: November 19, 2007, 07:05:00 am »

Later on down the road it would be neat for human civs to make tapestry 'buildings' from the Clothier workshop to hang in place of engravings.

Historically, engravings came before tapestries.  Why wouldn't both humand and dwarves be able to do it?   There's no reason to make every race have their own 'unique' thing for no reason.

On the other hand, currently, you can't engrave constructed walls, and most humans have wooden walls. I have to say that it makes sense that humans would have these, while dwarves don't, as stone is a better material for carving.

I was just thinking about that myself.  Tapestries to hang on the walls would be great.

I really like this idea. Best part is if you get a tapestry you don't like, you can always dump it or sell it to the Elves.

If Tapestries were to be put in, I think they'd be more likely to put over stone walls than wooden ones.  It doesn't take a master with a great selection of tools to carve something into wood (Heck, I can do it with a pocket knife), but stone being as strong and brittle as it is, it's more suited to castles and walls.

Tapestries definately would add some nice customization to a fortress, along with carpets and curtains...  We'll have to wait for those, though.

How would you "apply" them? Should they be placed on the square right next to the wall, or on the wall? Perhaps with a wasd facing option..

Add them onto a wall, I should think.

Although, ones hanging from the ceiling would also be nice...

Pick tapestry in the build menu, select the wall you want to put it on, then which tapestry to build.  It would function, as far as room value and such, just like an engraving - with the exception that it could be removed.
