Specifically, diamond armor.

How badass would that be?

Not as spectacular as the shards that'll fly when a hammer-something strikes it. Diamond is brittle.

Besides, you can probably already make with a little modding.

Just because you cannot cut it with lead doesn't mean you can't shatter it into a thousand pieces with lead.

Here's a very old suggestion on the same topic.  I think it gives a bit more complete explanation.

Diamond may be _hard_, but it's also _brittle_. The two terms are distinct. It would hold up VERY well against slashing weapons, and would horribly mangle anyone who got hit with a hammer/mace blow, because if something is brittle it doesn't stand up to blunt force well at all.

Good against a specialized threat. Not much elsewise.

Diamond swords, on the other hand...  Fun.

If the man is tall it doesn't mean that he's thin for sure.

Also this is kind of suggestions that I call "trolling", not because of dullness of creator or intentional stupidness, but mainly because of the lack of the idea. How much time did you spend to come to this idea before posting it in the official suggestions thread? Did you try to search for the same things already done (you can make almost anything from anything with a few exceptions, and it's stated on wiki and highly used in different mods)? I mean, seriously, you're a big boy... Wtf. No offence though, just develop your idea to something more useful/creative. What could be pros/cons o gem armor? High cost but easily shattered? What's the point? Maybe some magical properties which make the dwarves superstrong or turn them mad?
Just. develop. your. thoughts. Remember that Toady reads this.

Quite discussed in the other thread.  A diamond sword would shatter on impact with any armor harder than "leather," as would a diamond arrowhead, resulting in a net 0 damage to the target and the loss of a rather valuable weapon/ammo.

I'm sorry, but my first instinct on seeing this is to shout FAIL.  Because you do.

Diamond does not work that way!  Take some materials science.  Heck, just take a gems & minerals class.  Everyone loves 'rocks for jocks'.  EDIFY THYSELF.

A diamond arrowhead would indeed shatter in most cases, but if my mind remembers correctly, it's possible to have a crystal oriented in such a way that it resists blunt force in full. It is simplest to orient an arrowhead this way, contrary to a sword, as it is intended to always hit a target in the same fashion.

And it's possible to have a diamond sword in modded DF. Specifically, a diamond-encrusted wooden shortsword. It's also possible to have a solid diamond sword, but that's a rare case of the MA+ mod.

Considering that we use .50cal for currency and evreybody has a high powered rifle built in somewher in their body a diamond arrowhead would most likely work like a cartoon nuke - Eradicating all life within the blast radius but leaving the target alive and slightly singed.

Yep, the Roman myth of Adamant was actually just diamonds.

Though I wonder who coined the term Adamantium first... Dungeons and Dragons or X-men

Since before it was just Adamant or something.

As for Armor made out of jewels... My only suggestion is that I HOPE they don't break reality and have it so you don't need that many.
