Do you want to try Star Trek Online for free?
« on: January 23, 2010, 07:01:41 pm »

I bought STO but don't care for it and have the next 30 days paid for essentially. If you think you might like to try it out I would be happy to share login info.

I also have Darkfall Online paid for and I really, really, really regret it, but if you hate yourself and want to play you can have that as well. Seriously, others may like it, but it isn't for me.

I tried darkfall.

It really, really sucks. Like, really, your brains will explode and you will die inside. I do not blame Eurogamer for the score it gave it.

I believe you. I've been following the beta forums....read the latest development chat...but still...I guess I just have to see it myself.

Lord Bucket now has the STO login and I have no more responsibility for either of these two games, thank ARMOK!

So I'm playing STO right now.

...I cannot describe how bad it is. Everything that you have been told is true. And then some.

Seriously...it looks like something out of the 90's. It's slow, it's pixelated, it plays like a single player game, it's poorly written, the loading screens are ridiculous, the first loading screen you get with the cryptic logo when you start is in black and white...and when that's done it takes you to another loading screen.

The controls are sluggish, the colors are strange, and my character walks like a pixelated cripple. Gameplay seems to involve running around and pressing 'F' at things that don't move and shooting things that do. Character creation is a bizzare mix of highly detailed ways to make the blobs of your character bigger or smaller combined with a bunch of badly named abilities with frequently unclear function. Why does the "Creative" vulcan trait give me more hitpoint and make me do more damage?

The storyline is atrocious, I'm halfway through the tutorial and already bored and I'm only here writing this post because the game has crashed for the second time.

So I've now discovered sector space.

Why is everything blue? Space, marker lines, my window frames, my fonts...everything is blue.

Why are there huge billboards bigger than stars marking off various sectors?

Why is space two dimensional?

Why in the Sol system in the center of the galaxy?

Why are sector blocks impassable except at arbitrary transit points? For example, if I go "up and left" from Sol, I hit the edge of space. Why is this?

What were they thinking?
