You wait. Eventually your Captain gets word the enemy army is close and the Guard have started their hit-and-run attacks.
You hear a sound that sounds a bit like something burning, but you don't have time to wonder.
The Captain shouts something, but at the same moment the burning sound becomes much, much more louder and feel heat
assaulting you from behind. You turn to look, and see the lone Trooper who was standing there get annihillated by an explosion of green fire. Several others follow suit, engulfing the trees outside inside them.
' Get inside, get in the cavern!' the Captain shouts, and you obey.



You see enemies closing in all along the forest, and so does the Captain.
' Hold positions, don't let them touch the Executioner!'

And yes, the Executioner is online, but it's long-range artillery, and you're not going to get to use it unless someone calls in an artillery strike elsewhere.

The Captain calls for Guard units in the forest nearby to find and silence the enemy artillery.

The alien swarm advances.
'Fire.'

Over half of it is brought down by a sea of Lancer bolts, Shredder Rounds, the Missile Launcher and Devie's Meltacannon.
The stragglers still continue. A tall, tentacled beast leaps through the air, landing on the defensive wall and breaking it. The others follow it. It won't last long under fire, anyway. If the rest of the army goes down this quick, you actually might have a chance of winning!



But no, it's not gonna be that easy - their most powerful weapon is numbers - in fact, another wave of enemies is already on it's way.

You and Devie both scored one kill, so;

Alien Crawler Killed! 15 XP!

Has anyone ever heard of 'Dig foxholes' or 'Dig Trenches'?

Anyway, focus on taking out the dangerous guys, not the crawlers.

Now what do we do when we encounter snipers or fighting in tight corridors?
Or even if the Aliens have a bunch of Civvies near them.

Don't say Blow them to hell, you either have a good chance of missing, getting yourselves killed, or killing others in those situations.

Man, I'm not saying we can't use normal weapons, it's just that with Heavy Weapons you get an insanely strong area affect thing. Our current weapons suck compared to that.

Also. Phantom, no offense intended, but I think you're being a little too realist here. Games are supposed to be realistic so people don't have to suspend disbelief too much, but they have to have some unrealistic bits, or else the game's not fun or too difficult to maintain or whatnot. For example, you can probably dig trenches, but maybe not in the game (I think). In Hephaestus, you can probably eat a sandwich or bring civilization to the masses or such, but not in the game.
So... yeah. Heavy Weapons are probably going to be less friendly fire than in real life, or the game would be painful and people would be dying left and right.

I would rather that all of us don't have Weapons of Massacre.

It won't be fun if we're just gunning down everything. Or if we're in a corridor and a loader can't load.

It would be like this.

Attack/defend/run (from) the area.
Actions: Just kill everythings with Heavy weapons.
Repeat until end of game.

I hate overpowered weapons unless I'm messing around.

That's a good point.
How about Vennets become loaders/basic gunners (decent gun like a lancer), we become a sniper, and Devie becomes the heavy weapon user? Was that the build we were already using?
