The Invasion
« on: January 23, 2010, 10:11:29 am »

The city you've lived in your entire life is being attacked by a new type of alien, never seen before. Apparently, their invasion fleet is moving towards the planet right now. The military's evacuating the city, and you're not planning on staying.
You would've left hours ago, but your packing took longer than expected. But still, you're now ready to board one of the leaving ships
and get out before the aliens come. You step out of your apartment, turn towards the door of the building and...

The explosion throws you to the ground. Light floods into the building. When you regain your sight, you realize... something has broken through the roof and detonated in poor Mr. Cavlin's doorway. Cavlin himself is lying on the floor in a pool of blood with a piece of his door sticking out of his back. A small creature, barely the size of Cavlin's head, is sinking it's claws into him, apparently planning on eating him. It doesn't seem to have noticed you yet.

(We are the white P. The exit of the building is the row of white d's in the bottom. The aliens are the purple C's.)

What do you do? You could probably beat it, but those claws do look quite sharp... anyway, you have to get out of the there.

Look in the apartment opposite of yours for any heavy objects, or tools. A hammer or power drill would work nicely.

(Your apartment and their apartment look empty, but imagine there's furniture in there. My decorating attempts failed, sorry.)

You rush over to the door of the Vennet Twins and bang as hard as you can, hoping they haven't left yet.
Fortunately, the face of the first twin appears in the doorway.
' What? What do you want?' he demands. You explain the situation to him as quickly as you can, and watch his eyes widen in surprise.
The twins didn't even hear the explosion, or sound of anti-aircraft fire outside, oddly.
The first twin quickly hands you a... frying pan? and rushes to find something for himself. Not much of a weapon, but it'll do. (Frying Pan gained (+1 extra Attack))

(I somehow managed to make the body of Mr Calvin disappear. The alien ate him, okay?)

The first twin rushes out into the corridor with a kitchen knife, and you slip past him to look for a better weapon.
You find a Stubpistol hidden in the bathroom and take it. The twins won't mind, or, well, that's what you hope.
(Stubpistol Gained (Str. 3 AP - Shoots once per turn))

You run back to the corridor, ready to shoot the alien, but find the first twin already locked in battle with the alien creature.
He lashes at the creature with the knife, but it glances off the thing's carapace. He raises the knife up for another try, but the creature leaps forward, aiming for his chest. The twin quickly sidesteps however and escapes it's slashing claws.
You see the opportunity and shoot. The stubpistol may not be the best of weapons, but it's still deadly. The bullet pierces through the creature's carapace and drives it's way into it's heart.
The twin mutters his thanks, but you hear another alien screech from the fourth apartment on the floor.

You move to the door, pistol ready. The creature is nowhere to be seen, however. Did it go to the bathroom, or...?

The alien drops down from the ceiling. You bring the frying pan up, but it goes straight past it and lands on your arm.
You expect pain, but none come. Somehow, your clothes have stopped it's claws. (Lucky 6 there.)
You counterattack with the frying pan, throwing the creature off you. It slides down the floor but gets a second later up again, readying for another jump. Before it can proceed with that, however, you finish it off with another shot from your pistol.

You're quite sure everybody on the second floor left already, but it can't hurt to check, right?

Looks empty.
You don't really have much time for this. You doubt the evac trains are waiting for anyone anymore, so you should hurry.

You gain a new level when you have enough XP. New levels give new abilities and let you improve your stats.

(Your ninja edit was too late, Phantom, sorry.)

You head outside with the twins, who agree that staying together increases your chances of survival greatly.
The moment you step outside you are assaulted by a horrible smell, probably somehow made by the aliens. The sky is very clouded, and the clouds are... green? You realize they're not clouds at all, but thousands, maybe millions of falling alien spores.
Volleys of AA-fire light up the sky every now and then, indicating the military's still fighting.

( The thing between the two buildings is an underground entrance)

The evac trains are west. You could try reaching them by foot, but you have a feeling the underground tunnels might be safer. (And easier for me to draw, hint-hint.)

(I can't update much tomorrow, btw, but I'll start again monday)

The trains will probably get bombed by alien aircraft.

Head into the undergrounds tunnels.
