That's.. possible.  I wouldn't actually have to tweak the plot much for that, but I dunno. I'll see what happens when we're nearer the end.
The planet could very well be a forgotten Earth colony, but it also could be an alternate dimension where humans begun on a different world.

You order the remaining troops to the centre, granting you much more firepower. Your fire takes down most of them and wrecks a few Spitter pods.

• 1 Triggered Explosive (Str. 4 AP 5 - Blast, Can be detonated whenever you want)
# Marksman (+1 To Hit for the turn)
# Mark Target (Everybody gets +2 To Hit against the marked target)
# Aggression (Weapon fires as Assault 4 for the turn)

Abilities have a cooldown time of two turns, so you can't use them every single turn. You can get improved versions of them as well,
when you level up again
