And I like to imagine that people create threads to put their weird, one-line thoughts in, as there are none in real life.
OH WAIT.
The bold areas are grammar or spelling corrections. The italics indicates a section that does not follow from the grammatical structure of the previous part of the sentence.
Try again never.
The bold areas denote where you have managed to consign your thread to either a long and painful, or a short and painful existence.
Good luck with that!
If someone mindlessly threadshits your thread in reply number one, I think you are fully justified in deploying what you might call the "teacher's red-pen of doom". Much classier than just telling them to go fornicate with themselves, which must be a stong temptation in such circumstances.
I was actually on Panda's side
until he took the "teacher's red-pen of doom" out. It was mindlessly stupid compared to the many other options available to him. Let's go over them now point by point:
Response #1:"I'm the creator of this thread, and I can and will put this topic back on track."
Rating: Iffy. Aqizzar has used it to great effect, but he's Aqizzar.
Response #2:"I like to imagine that your head is shoved so far up your own ass that it's your head again, only it smells like crap."
Rating: Justified, but a bit over the top. Especially when we're going for a discussion in a friendly manner. Plus, it probably would have derailed the thread.
Response #3:"I just hit the report button. Thanks for stopping in.
"
Rating: I like this option. Would've probably scored points with me. Especially since it was a pretty clear case.
Unfortunately, none of these were taken, and instead, we get one of the worst arguments made on the internet: "You're stupid because you couldn't spell things right! Haha!" This, to me, is an abortion of a perfectly valid argument that could've been made in an intelligent way. And so it had to be fought against in the most heinous way possible: Thread derailment. There was an opportunity there that I couldn't waste. It had to be done.
I apologize.
