Damn, i HATE name thieves, it's irrational but it feels like they're all impostors. Same thing with my IRL name, everyone I find out someone else is called the same I get annoyed.

Fairly sure noone's ever stolen my name.  Although there was that forum with case sensitive username where someone made "leafsnail" to undercut me.

I'm actually surprised how infrequently I come across other sproingies.

My real name is common enough that I've now worked at two companies where people had the same first and last name as me.  One was at a major defense contractor, where I worked in tech support: my counterpart was a VP or something.  I got an email asking for me to sign off on contract approval for sale of F-16's to the Greek air force.  I was tempted to reply "get 'em to throw in a crate of Ouzo and baklava and we have a deal" but federal prison didn't look so appealing so I thought better of it.

In a slightly ironic twist, now that I'm out of support, my doppleganger where I work now is in support, so I end up forwarding a lot of support mail to him.

I thought it was kind of fun to a have a friend with the same name as me, so we could both say the same thing while passing each other in the halls, then people would be like . I thought it was hi-larious at the time, that was about, what? 4th grade?

Seriously though, lasd (not LASD) is unsurprisingly often taken as it is a fairly common combination of random button mashing. In these cases I turn to something that has Lassitude in it. Or just slap ARGH after LASD.

Contrary to popular belief the numbers in my name do mean something.

Aparently there's a guy who goes by theDJ17 on Last.FM but he hasn't capitalized the T making him a very poor immitation.
