Custom reports
« on: January 19, 2010, 11:52:27 pm »

I'd love the ability to create my own custom status reports.  I imagine it working like this:

  • Create a new custom report.  It starts out as a blank screen with an "X" cursor.
  • Hitting "L" allows you to place a label (whatever text you want to type) at the cursor location.
  • Hitting "S" opens up a (big) menu of different statistics, including:
    • On-hand quantities of all item types
    • Population statistics (number of dwarves, number who have a certain skill enabled, number who are ecstatic, happy, unhappy, etc.)
    • Number of each type of room, quality level of room
    • Current job for a particular dwarf or workshop
    • Once a statistic is chosen, a placeholder appears at the cursor's location.
  • When this custom report is viewed, all the stats are filled in for you.

For instance, a "steel industry" report might include current quantities of iron, flux, pig iron, fuel, and steel, along with job status for the furnace operators and the furnaces themselves.

Bonus points if we can export/import reports to share with each other.

Love it. For sparkles include a tool for creating lines(for flowchart-style reports) and conditional colors for the statistics. (for example: steel bars n > 20 green; 20 > n 10 Yellow; 10 > n red) Instant fortress status ;D

You either:

1 - Work in management.
2 - Will work in management.

:)

Now I want DF to export all my fort data to xls. so I can create my own analysis spreadsheets.

Actually I'm a PhD student in mathematics, so (1) is false, and I sincerely hope that (2) is, as well.  :-)
