OK, I've downloaded the save. I'll try to get my turn completed and uploaded by 18:30 GMT (13:30 forum time?) on Friday 5th February.

Masterpiece clutter in the butcher's shop?! Yes, the butcher's shop is actually ☼CLT☼; never seen that before. I guess Urist McButcher is aiming for the Dwarven equivalent of the Turner prize...

None. Although auto-slaughter is enabled in the workshop standing orders; maybe that has something to do with it. The meat industry is something I gave up on ages ago, because I can never get it hauled to a stockpile before it rots. In fact, if you see a butcher's shop in one of my forts, it's because a moody dwarf wanted bones/leather and I didn't have any.

Auto-slaughter just means that if you mark animals they'll get butchered without waiting for you to put orders in the Butcher's Shop.

Well if COD players all have ADHD, and Minecrafters autism, then what do DF players all have?

I slaughter all unclaimed pets, newly born animals and all of the animals my marksdwarfs take out.
Enjoy your giant cave bat meat :D

::auto slaugter means that if there is an unrotten corpse in you refuse pile, then a butcher order will be made to turn it into delicious meat.

First artifact of my turn is kind of lame:

Nokzamsanreb, "Battleowner", a perfect chrysocolla

This is a perfect chrysocolla. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encrusted with Chrysocolla.

Value 4800☼

You're confusing auto-slaughter and auto-butcher.
Auto-slaughter tells butchers to kill animals you've marked.
Auto-butcher turns available corpses into delicious meat.
Check the wiki if you don't believe me.

Argh! Goblin ambush arrived at same time as Elven caravan. 16 dead so far, drafted all dwarves as emergency measure. Video driver crashed, revert to spring 204.

wouldn't it have been better to move everyone inside and pull the bridges?

A similar pattern of two ambushes occurred after I reverted to spring 204, and moving everyone inside worked much better (forgot about the bridges though; which lever is for the bridge in the outer wall?) - only 4 dead this time.

Other news:

Glass and steel production started.
We now have a well.
Improved archery range with trench to catch bolts that miss.
Started construction of fortifications on top of outer wall.

And a new immigrant bowyer is in a strange mood. He's grabbed three logs, two turtle shells, and a piece of silk cloth. Looks like it's going to be something better than the last artifact  :P

The levers have notes on them (N), the left one is for the outer bridgre, while the middle and right control the lava trap, i think...
