you're probly using the mayday  tile set which supports the economic stones mod
your stones you have most likely aren't enabled, go z>select stones>select the stone type you want enabled.

EDIT: also, most stone types will work, so don't waste your bauxite on it.

It's possible it's the Mayday issue of marking almost all stone as economic.  I suppose it's also possible that all of the stuff you have is forbidden for some reason.  Also, I think it's the Masonry labor you need to construct this out of stone.  I don't think you need Architecture for building workshops and furnaces.

And because you said you were new, I'll also say this; use your Jet.  Your magnetite should be smelted into iron for it's various purposes and your platinum is just valuable, so you should save it for when you have a skilled metalworker to turn it into something nice.  Bauxites is extremely important to vanilla DF because it is the only magma-safe stone.  Useful for many purposes, including being one of only two materials in the game that you can make magma-safe mechanisms from.  Using the other material is just wasteful, if you plan to play with magma, that's what bauxite is for.

Actually, for furnaces you do need Architecture, and Metalsmithing/Masonry, depending on what it's made of.

Personally, one of the things that I like to include in my embarks is a few hunks of bauxite and some ore; early on, before I start playing with magma, it gets used for forge and furnaces, long enough for me to forge picks and start digging out other stone, then it gets converted into mechanisms and a floodgate, for use in my magma operations.
