Let's dust this thread off, shall we?

I've completed the next couple years of work on Undergrotto. I avoided taking any old shots again, but here's the old quote from earlier in the thread with the last set of images:

holy crap that is amazing.... you really show the benefit's of stonesense as a visualizer, even if just for screenshots. My dwarfs are gonna revolt if they catch wind of such a homestead.  I myself am quite humbled.

You should change your name from Retro to "Fucking Awesome"  ;D

cheers, you deserve it!

Tolkien had a great secret: The dwarves of Moria didn't dig too deep. A prominent dwarf with lots of friends started tantruming and, well, you figure out what happened next.

Probably not for a while, since usually after a first release, there are one or two bugfix releases right after, and after that, dfhack/stonesense have to be updated to work with the new versions.

Those are the screenies I need to introduce DF to my internet friends. Thank you, good sir.

Holy ****ing ****!!!  Is that a real functioning fortress?  All these screenies from page 1 to here, are those real functioning fortresses with like, food and stuff?  No cheats?  Started out at 7 dwarves?  holy shiz did you like, hollow out a freakin' mountain and build a city out of blocks or something!?  Do people really make forts like that?  damn!

I believe the answer to all those questions is yes, Thorik, save for maybe the no cheats.

(There is a story behind this. . .)

This is an Alder Omelette. All craftsdwarfship is of highest quality. It is encircled with bands of cheese. It menaces with spikes of bacon, ham, and peppers. On the object is an image of dwarves in egg white. The dwarves are eating.

Those are simply amazing.  Puts anything I've tried to shame.  Do you plan all those out from the start or do you randomly decide to work on whatever comes to mind?

Sort-of no cheats. I used a handful, but only for superficial purposes (ie. I accidentally destroyed some natural ramps and turned the newly built ones into natural ones for the benefit of visualizers). The sandy beach was a stretch, but I was a real-time month in by the time I realized I'd forgot to check for sand on embark (original plan was to collapse a surface sand layer down). I also use [SPEED:0], but only because the framerate's so appalling low that without it it's hard to tell if dwarves are moving or not - even with it, they still don't seem to move very fast.

Do you plan all those out from the start or do you randomly decide to work on whatever comes to mind?

I've been planning since the last week of October and playing it since November. I don't want to detail the process too much here since I'm I hope a week away from finishing the damned thing and I plan to make my own thread at that point. I feel bad enough for semi-hijacking this thread, anyhow >_>;

I have one major problem with Stonesense. It makes everything look far too light and airy and happy for dwarf fortress. Armok would be ashamed :P

In case you're wondering, yes, those are tombs in the pillars. I'm working on hollowing out the outside of them; eventually they'll be smoothed and engraved along their whole length and have water flowing down their sides.

Woah, that's awesome. Also massive, what's your population?
