Which core are you starting with?  If you're running LambdaCore, I really recommend switching to JHCore before you get much stuff built.  It's a much nicer base to work with.

And to paraphrase Carl Sagan, if you want to make a combat NPC from scratch, you must first reinvent the RPG.  MOO has no MUD mechanics built in at all.  You could take a look at LambdaRPG over on LambdaMOO, but it's nothing you would be able to or want to copy wholesale (its notion of the "doll" as a surrogate for a player's RPG stats is interesting but probably quite unnecessary if your entire MUD is RPG).

Personally, I would try to do something like DF's material and body layers system.  In fact you should make it able to parse the raws from DF itself.  I'd be totally willing to lend a hand in programming such a beast if you're interested.

That'd be a killer if you could get it done.

Right now we have to figure out how to carry out the RPG part, stuff like combat, creating NPCs, a notion of stats and verbs. Skills can be worked and fleshed out later, me thinks.
The main concept is currently working fine, you can create your own areas and objects, with a 20kb limit representing the "energy". There's currently no known way to increase our creation capacity, as far as I know.

Looking nice though, PTTG got a nice concept running, and I'll most likely play it once its done, and playtest it while its not, of course.

There is a way to increase capacity, but since everything right now is being done on a programmer level and not a player level, its probably gonna change. I believe a wizard can change the amount that you have, but I haven't tested out anything on the database system aside from adding programmers.

In the beggining, there was only one, floating in the endless void, lets call him Bob.
Bob was all-powerful, able to create things out the nothingness that surrounded him.
Bob felt lonely in the endless dark void, and for the first time, used his powers to create things.
Bob was afraid of the dark, so he created stars.
Bob created a few proto-worlds, with creatures he designed himself.
Some died in a few seconds, some were strong enough to walk on the surface of a star.
But they were not like Bob.
And so Bob still felt lonely.

Eventualy, by watching his creations, Bob started having ideas, many ideas.
Some of these ideas conflicted with eachother.
Over time, these ideas, fueled by Bob's lonelyness, became personalities.
These personalities would grow more complex as Bob developed them, intentionaly, and eventualy, unintentionaly.
They multiplied, and grew.
Eventualy, Bob was not Bob anymore.
Bob was not insane, but he was not the same.
Bob was not only one now.
Bob was many.

This legion of beings slowly grew weary of eachother, sharing a single, if all-powerful, existence.
Their hunger for independence affected Bob's powers.
Thus they finaly hadt he power to do what they wished for.
And then, Bob was no more.
Bob split apart into many, many beings, each holding part of Bob's power.
But they were not like Bob, they were different, from Bob and eachother.
Like Bob, they could create things.
And so they set off to create their own worlds, their own homes, their own creatures.
But eventualy they found out that, unlike Bob's, their powers had a limit.
They hungered for more power.

Eventualy they found out that they could get more of Bob's powers from their brothers and sisters.
And from Bob's ancient creations.
Some started researching them.
Some turned against eachother.
Some allied themselves with a few others.
A war had begun.
And through this war, a universe would be born.
This is the story
of the Firmament Wars.
Yes, I was that bored.

Assuming you're running LambdaCore (and again I really suggest JHCore), this should help in setting quota and some other admin stuff:

I'll try to get it working again tonight. I think that the server itself may be having problems... did any wizard mess with anything? I might be able to fix a small database error.

Yesterday I logged on my character late and created some more rooms and a sign on beorn's place, but thats it. Didn't see any wizards on, nor did I log one.

Only things I've done so far have been to dig rooms and read the help files. I was gonna start trying to figure out more advanced wizard stuff, since others seem to be tackling the verb problem.

AND LO! For too long, our ports had been blockaded by our under-handed, sea-dog enemies! But THEN! A hero emerged, charging into the foaming waves, and rode out, riding upon the two most masculine dolphins to have ever graced the sea! He rode forth and scattered the dark armada to the four winds! He dashed them upon the rocks! He crushed them beneath his muscular toe! His job completed, the hero rode his sea-steeds into the distant deeps, where he will wait for the day he is needed again.

The ports are re-opened... for now. I can't stay up to keep an eye on them, but unless someone actually intentionally tampers with it or the power goes out, there should be no major problems. In fact, I set the server to restart if it crashes, though it will revert to the current database. I'll step it forward in the morning if that happens.

So then! Everyone back in the pool!

gaahgh They changed my IP again. I'll hook this up with a permanent IP somewhere else once prototyping is over. For now, and the forceable future, use THIS ADDRESS:

75.210.73.115:8888

No longer correct! Feel free to try it if it goes down and you feel lucky...
