Hmmms....it's the same for the forwarding right?

And you do know you must have a static ip address or a dynamicdns?

I'll find you a free dynamic dns if you don't have a static IP (you usually have to pay to have one.)

just double check your ip for me real quick.

It may be most advisable to secure a server then. isunlimited.net will provide a free server with subdomain for MUD development (10 simultaneous connections), and you can add unlimited number of connections for $11 a year!

I've got it almost working, though. I just need to know how to tell people to log in. I'd much rather have control over the server.

Where does one go to find out how to use this internet thing?

I've been trying to get this thing working all day, and I think my ISP is blocking the connection. I'll try again tomorrow with a different connection.

Why does this have to be so complex? Every other internet program in the world does this automatically!

Where do people go to learn this stuff? The only networking class I've seen available around here has, as a major lab, how to make Cat5 cables!

Wait, you're using port 23? Isnt that reserved for something, like telnet or somesuch? I'd recommend using a much higher port to prevent conflict issue, like port 8888. This might or might not fix your problem, but better safe than sorry.

Though yeah, your ISP might be blocking your connection, since that's exactly what prevents me from hosting/port forwarding stuff too.

Port 23 is default for telnet, which is why he is using it.

I can imagine a few ISPs block port 23.
A quick check showed that verizon-wireless(If that is your ISP, I just ran a quick check on the IP) only blocks port 25

I would say it is most likely a port forwarding issue, but try using a different port aswell.
I had a router thats firewall blocked all externally initiated connections, so that might be another thing to check

I think I have it now! Had to set up forwarding on the modem AND the router. And take down all the firewalls, and this and that...
I can use canyouseeme.org to connect, and I can see it's on the logs...

Connect to 75.208.28.115:8888
and we'll see if this works!

I managed to connect, I was in a dark room screaming "anyone heeeere" and the likes.

EDIT: I keep disconnecting after 30 seconds or so though.

It's working!
IT'S WORKING!
IT'S AAA-LIVEEEEE!!!!!

Unfourtunately, whenever someone logs in as the wizard, it kicks the previous wizard off. Currently, our universe consists of a stupid-looking hunchback dwarf, a rock (not microline), a blank sign, and a superbeing with multiple personalities who are gradually coming to hate one annother.

It's turned out better than I could have possibly imagined.
