May Green tileset
« on: January 18, 2010, 11:22:59 pm »

I tried May Green's tileset today, on Windows 7, but when it started, it just had a black screen. Anybody encounter something similar?
The main one and http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=40349.0 works perfectly on my computer, with or without other tilesets

1) Make sure that your download wasn't corrupted (i.e. redownload it) and that the tileset specified in /data/init/init.txt is installed in /data/art.
2) Update your video drivers.

Hey! It works this time!
...kind of. the main menu works, but when you press create new world, a message saying "GPU unable to accomodate texture catalog. Retry without graphical tiles, update your drives, or better yet update your GPU." comes up.

Okay, so I have the most updated driver software, so should I get a better GPU or something? (anybody got this and fixed this without buying anything?)

You can try tweaking PRINT_MODE in init.txt, but this thread makes it sound like turning off graphics is your best bet.

Tried  tweeking (to all the options), but didn't work.
And what is the point of getting the tileset if you want to turn it off?

I'm having trouble believing that leaving graphics on or changing the tileset would cause such drastic video problems. Odds are things are just set up wrong in the init file, be it the resolution or something else.

You can still use the Mayday tileset, just not the graphics.  But yeah, you might as well just use the regular version.  Anyway, if you're absolutely sure that you have the absolute latest drivers, your only option for playing with graphics is probably to get a new graphics card.

Computer specs may help here, are you running an older computer with windows 7 installed? Pre-vista computer maybe?

Well, if you've got the latest drivers from the video card manufacturers site, I don't see how that'd be a problem.

Is it just Mike Maydays download that you just try to run right off the bat? (Runs that way with my windows 7 computer.)

Try running Mike Maydays download with custom graphics disabled JUST to see if that makes it run right. If that runs right, it's certainly graphic oriented.

Does anything appear in the errorlog on boot of the game? Maybe show up a screenshot of what the main menu looks like?

That's all I can think of at the moment...

I'm having the same problem, but only using 40d##. I can run 40d fine, but since it's an old computer (even better, it's so old I can't actually update the drivers due to lack of support) it won't run any of the enhanced versions.

I get the feeling your problem is the same as mine. A better option would be to download 40d and install Mayday's graphics yourself, if you really need the graphics.

The newer versions are actually a good idea for older computers much of the time, although you might have to fiddle with the options a lot.

Nah, that's a non-fatal error that shows up in everyone's errorlogs.

Have you tried turning off graphics yet?  I understand that it's not how you want to play, but it would be useful to help us understand where the problem stems from.

I got it to work!!  ;D yay

I turned graphics off, and changed the not-graphics (?) thing to:
[FULLSCREENX:1280]
[FULLSCREENY:1024]
[FULLFONT:mayday.png]

so it works that way, but the font is really small, I'm guessing its somewhere in the init file, but I don't really know >.<

And what happens if you change the graphics options to that same thing, and turn graphics back on?
