I found an elven caravan carrying stuff that I traded an elven caravan in a former fortress. It was traveling along a road. Also when I entered the same town there was a series of messages about wagons being scuttled. Anyone know why this happened? (I have screenshots if anyone wants proof)

Wagons cannot be shown in Adventure mode. So they are scuttled.

I don't think it is that (as Wagons can scuttle in Fortress mode) I think it is that they are build to collapse under certain circumstances.

Such as not having anything to do. (Which they don't in Adventurer mode)

Hm, if you abandon a fortress (or die) before taking your wagon apart, does it stay behind when reclaiming?  If so, that's one way to see if wagons spontaneously suicide when you come near in adventurer mode.

The Wagon your Fort starts with isn't the same wagon. It is a construction (that you cannot construct)

Wagons cannot appear in adventure mode, likely because they are considered unsupported structures, at that point. Probably something that is not completely worked out in the programming. They ARE considered creatures, and their DEATH is merely stated as "scuttled", just as any materials and/or crafts they may be holding was once considered hauled, and thus (though probably "owned by a particular civ" is takeable without consiquence.

You've mixed two things up here. The wagon that appears when you embark is a building. The wagons that traders bring are creatures. There have been cases wherein the latter type of wagon has appeared in Adventurer mode, but as Phantom stated earlier, they are scuttled as soon as the player reaches the area that they're in, as they're not supported yet and it's better to have a failsafe than to have a buggy creature showing up.
