UPDATE WHOOO!!! (Yes I know it's small, but it's all I have time for)
Note, the prologue picks up shortly after Lal makes it to the captain's landing pod in the story
Journey to Centauri. For those who don't want to download it (it's free) a brief summary:
The space ship is hit by some debris and due to the speeds it's traveling at this causes major damage. The ship shuts off its engine and wakes a few choice personnel, the captain Zakharov, Lal and Diedre. They then wake a few hundred of Zakharov's engineers who set to work repairing the structural damage to the ship, unless, they can safely turn on the engines without tearing the ship in half they'll overshoot Chiron without slowing down. Whilst they are trying to repair the ship however they discover that Santiago had someone program the computer to wake her and a few other people early, they gained access to the armoury and are demanding one of the landing pods for their own. The captain wakes Yang to help deal with Santiago but Santiago is literally stood over him as he wakes and takes him captive. Meanwhile Sister Miriam's cryo pod has been damaged but she manages to survive, in her mind due to god. Morgan meanwhile is discovered in a bay full of dead people, his pod was installed in secret and after the power went out in the bay he's in everyone was brought out of cryo sleep and basically trapped in their cells until they died and eventually rotted over the 40 year long journey, he on the other hand survived since his pod was installed secretly and had a different power cable. Stuff happens, and Santiago gets captured, the crew realise that they have only a slim hope of survival even now they fixed the ship and decide to split up each taking a self sufficient landing pod. Meanwhile Santiago's men have taken control of one of the pods for themselves and Yang has escaped. Everyone splits up and heads for their pod but in an effort to give those still in cryo sleep a choice of who they should go down to the surface with Lal wakes everyone, he then heads for the pod controlled by Santiago's men, which just so happens to contain his wife, in an attempt to exchange Santiago for that pod. Santiagos men are just about to start torturing him and his wife until he gives them Santiago when Yangs security personnel attack. Lal escapes to the captains pod but his wife is shot. Whilst this is happening Sister Miriam has been running around looking for a pod to join and then remembers that there is a pod past the point where the ship got hit, due to the impact damaging the ship everyone in there is likely to be in pretty bad shape but she head over anyway assuming that God gave her the pod to be her flock. So everyone is pretty much in a pod but none of them can detach from the ship, the explosives haven't exploded. The captain is attacked by a mysterious assailant so he manages to kill them but not without taking some serious wounds, in order to save the crew he climbs outside the ship and uses a grenade to manually trigger the explosives, allowing the life pods to land safely.
Anyhow yeh I recommend reading the story, it's much better than my half assed summary
PrologueColonel Santiago allowed herself a brief smile as Voki entered the room He quickly released from her cell before saluting sharply.
"Status?"
"We have maintained control over the landing pod despite assaults by Yang's security forces, he seems to have taken the best of them to his own pod, and those left behind have not had time to recover from the after effects of cryo sleep. One entry to the shuttle has been sealed and we await only you to seal the final one."
"Very well then, destiny awaits, at ease soldier and follow me."
Once Santiago stepped into the landing pod she turned and immediately punched in the code to seal the last remaining tunnel to it.
Turning to her troops she congratulated them. "Well done soldiers, the new world awaits us, relax while you can the struggle ahead will be hard."
Turning back to the console she entered the code to detach from the ship, after several minutes she re-entered it. Still nothing happened. In desperation she activated the ships thrusters but apart from a torturous groaning the landing pod remained unmoved, just as she shut off the thrusters a sudden jolt sent everyone in the pod flying. Outside the explosives boomed in quick succession each explosion releasing a pod and shaking all the remaining ones about; when the Spartan pod was released the jolt sent her straight across the room, but as she climbed to her feet she new that she was on the way to a new world. A world where military discipline would rule and prevent the mistakes made on earth.
Also I'm not the best writer in the world, so don't expect massively good story telling, feel free to provide constructive criticism.
