Since you've picked Spartans, do you plan to suggest different challenges? The mindworm/fungus just wouldn't fit with them. Although I guess the D ii) challenge would be quite suitable.

I'm guessing I'll just try to RP Santiago realistically. But when I get planet busters unless it would be total suicide expect the nukes to fly  ;D

I've played the first few turns but if you get an update before Monday you'll be lucky. My entire course so far has been building up to Monday basically when a ton of stuff is due in so I'm currently in the pull my hair out do loads of work and then collapse in exhaustion stage.

After reading Journey I see her in a different light, before she was a gun nut who just attacks anything. Now I tend to see her as a survivalist willing to do anything to ensure she survives even to the point of attacking a perceived/potential threat.

We must destroy the planet to save the planet.

And how is that different from a gun nut?

Does that means that, instead of attacking anything with a gun, she's willing to attack anything with a spoon too?

Yes the two are very similar in how they act but one is a completely 1d character, She has guns, so she kills things. The other is an actual person who is fighting for their survival but due to the nature of their upbringing on a horrible planet where threats literally are around every corner can't help but feel that she must wage endless war simply to ensure survival.

Sorry for putting this off for so long, anyhow have an update.

Prologue Part II: A New Dawn
Colonel Santiago blinked in the bright light of the new world. She had the honour to be the first human to ever step upon the virgin soil of another world. The last few days been full of frantic preparations for just this moment, the breather allowed her to breathe the air of planet but soon a glass dome would be raised and inside humans would breathe freely. A thousand tasks beckoned for her attention, scout patrols must be organised food production begun and a thousand other little things things, but for now she could focus on nothing but the beautiful red fungus around her filled with life. Slowly she reached for a small struggling worm and for a second as her fingers closed on it she felt fear fill her mind but then it was gone and she turned her back to begin all the work ahead of her. Behind her in the dirt the worm she had almost touched shuddered for a moment before ejecting a stream of small eggs, each one hatched quickly and dozens of new worms streamed forth.

Chapter One: An Old Friend
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Extract of a recording from The First Spartan Council: Today as you all know finished construction of our first base on planet, the supplies within the landing pod were more than sufficient and so it seems we have enough left to build a secondary base somewhere else. If survival on planet is our goal a quick expansion will be vital to prevent any single disaster from wiping us all out. Therefore the first item on our agenda shall be the most prudent place to found this secondary base. Further our landing pod contained some intact union rovers, as such we must organise a proper expedition to explore our surroundings.

Rover log Mission day 54: Today whilst scouting the area we found some one of the unity pods, we opened to control panel and keyed in the code as instructed but nothing happened, damn thing must be faulty.
Survey team mission report: As per instructions we investigated the location of the "faulty" pod, it appears to be a fertilization pod and has released chemicals into the soil nearby, as such this area will be a prime spot to harvest the food we need  to survive on planet.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Rover log MY2105: Holy crap. We were investigating a signal which we thought was being made by a pod today, turns out it was some kind of alien artifact. I'm hoping the eggheads back at base can make some sense out this because it's beyond anything any human has ever made

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Exert from The History of the Spartan Nation, published MY2305:
It was in MY2105 that The Spartans completed construction of their second base, the entire operation had been plagued from the start by bad organisation and a severe lack of materials, the majority of the equipment originally planned to be used was faulty and as such what should have taken less than year infact took them 4 whole years.

"Ah Captain Yang." Santiago smiled at the comscreen "I trust we can let bygones be bygones and forget the events during the final days of the Unity."
"I prefer to style myself Chairman now, I lead The Human Hive and will brook no interference with my, however I am willing to forgive you your mutiny. Indeed perhaps we should exchange information. I can provide you with maps and research and all I ask in exchange is equal terms."
Santiago nodded slightly, "Very well then a toast to our continued survival and new friendship."
As the comscreen flickered back off and Santiago sipped from her glass she waved over one of the nearby Spartan Elite Guard.
"Summon the council, we must decide how best to deal with this new threat and eliminate Yang."
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

EDIT:
Forgot to mention, you guys are my council. Discuss! As I see it we have 2 options, immediate destruction of Yang or else wait a bit so that I have the production power and the technology to prevent this simply being an extended war of attrition.

If you think you can take him out, then you wouldn't be doing your job to wait another moment.  Carpe cōleī!

But you can't take him out.  Your military is rated "Feeble" and his is "Potent".

Plus, you just signed a Treaty of Friendship, so you'll lose prestige with your collegues if you simply declare war.

I'd suggest building up your military might and increasing garrisons.  By the way, you just gave him the ability to make rovers.  You might want to prioritize building those if you're interested in offense.

Long-term, Yang isn't much of a threat, and he'll eventually declare war on you, and lose prestige himself instead of you.  Democracy is a rather low-tech governing policy if you want to encourage Yang to declare war sooner.  He hates democracy.  Plus, the few turns between when you change to democracy and Yang declares war should help you develop a greater research advantage.

Sure I gave him rovers, but in exchange I got command centres, and early game a command centre churning out units can be killer. Also I happen to know that the U.N.S Unity crashed not that far to the north, this means a free laser attack unit and more importantly a free chopper to repel mindworm spore launcher and rover attacks.

Build up a massive army to swarm his lands at the slightest threat.

Agreed, we must be prepared to engage in military action as soon as possible.  Yang clearly intends to dominate all of the Unity survivors himself, and we simply cannot allow that.  We will need to strike before he has had a chance to fully settle in, I think.

We need a standing army of Combat Rovers, only then can we deal with Yang.
