Can babies tantrum?

My current fort has a newborn who is quick to anger, often discouraged, and uncomfortable with change.  Additionally, he detests flies, and of course my fortress swarms with them.

Noticed him during a scan of moods - what, I've got an unhappy dwarf?  Well, indeed I do.  His only thoughts are accosted by terrible vermin and annoyed by flies, two events that are likely to reoccur often and he's only been alive a few days.

Is it possible for him to tantrum as he is, or the moment he grows to a child?  I find myself wishing I could designate some toys for him, draft and arm him with a rattle or something. :D

I believe only adult dwarves that are unhappy are capable of tantruming.They'll be arrested anyway.

I know babies can get unhappy enough to kill themselves. Had one get depressed and jump off my main watchtower....10 z levels high. Then her mom went insane and did the same thing.

Odd... babies will usually only suicide if their mother dies...

Babies are definitely capable of going insane, though I believe I've only seen melancholy (it's only happened once or twice).

Children can definitely get any type of insanity.  One time a berserk child killed about 4 other children and 3 adults before being struck down by my military.  "Urist cancels task: interrupted by child."

But no, I've never seen a baby or child tantrum.

Thanks all!  I didn't take any special precautions to try and fence Mom away from the flies, but that baby slowly improved to fine, despite showing the same negative thoughts and no positive ones.  Still a baby though, will see if it manages to grow up - unless of course the suicidal baby Moonlightbird wrote of had a Mom that was unconscious or something, unable to tend to it?  If that's the case, my wee grouch is prolly fine :D

The suicide baby had has it's mom in bed for 2 years from a wound from a kolbold arrow poking her eye. The dad had his body torn apart from breaching the HFS and a rape clown getting a hold of him. No wonder the kid was nuts. Right after the mom recovered she jumped, no doubt from the sadness of losing her husband and baby. On another funny note, I had a child kick a cat in half today!

Lol I never had a baby in DF long enough to see them walk around. The mother usually just holds them or go searching for them.

Draft the mom so they use the babies as shields! They are great at stopping arrows!

They will crawl to suicide not only if their mother is dead, but also if she's otherwise distracted, strange mood being one example.
