Bah, screw Xylbot roles.  I feel like this game needs a smaller spread of choices--like (players) + 2 or so.  Otherwise, a lot of the decision-making process is going to turn into "Whatever, I'll pick this one.  There's too damned many roles on this list, anyway."

I say this mostly by virtue of the utter pain that was role-choosing in KWN:DE, when there weren't even any penalties for choosing what someone else had chosen and I knew what everyone else was doing.  Too many possibilities results in no choosing whatsoever.
No, we mean using the entire list to randomize the list of roles that you'll choose from for the game.

Well yeah, that is what i'll do. The roles shown in the example are just an example.


I'm open to suggestion for how many total roles, ovbiously less roles means more chance of townies, more roles means less chance of townies.

I think 150% of the players will do.  If we have 10 players then 15 available roles.

Vector's Bastard Mafia has ended, so this game is coming into focus. Once we have some solid numbers for % of players to roles and enough people have !xmafia in'ed, we shall begin.

@Red  If you did, you would've been denied, which would've helped you solve the mystery.  As it stands, people treated the game like a traditional mafia (well, first like a RTD) and not like a puzzle. 

@leafsnail, no one tried TFB.  In fact, just about all of the townies chose roles that were town-based while Vector only picked scum-based ones.  They were sort of 'hardwired' to pick those roles without experimenting.

Honestly, if I had watched the rules more closely, Vector would've been given a way around the Dirty Bomber.  I so wanted to say to him "oh you can choose your role still at night" then looked at my own ruleset and went "Oh &%$#*("

The problem with puzzle-based Mafya games is that of duration. Puzzles need a fair while and plenty of experimentation to figure out, if you have enough people in the Mafya game then you end up with Pandarsenic's BYOR, if you have a sane number of people in the game then it's all over before anyone can really get their teeth into the puzzle.


That's why i like using ressurection and other game-elongating roles.

That depends on the setup actually.  Puzzle games where clues to the puzzle show up during the daytime can work faster, since the idea is that the town should spend the day time finding the clues instead of pushing for an early night.

Mafias where the clues are mostly determined during the night need methods for the town to survive the night phase more often so they get more cycles to find the clues.

In truth, KWN:DE had a town-based system for that, since the town could easily pick roles like angel and Bulletproof townie.  Furthermore, Vector's role gave him plenty of reasons to not pick a killing role (note he had no natural mafiakill).  In fact, IIRC, Vector never did kill anyone himself all game.  All of the deaths were either via lynches, townies killing townies, and two modkills due to activity.

Yeah, doing stuff in the day massively speeds things up, which is why i also like to give out roles with day actions :D


Plus, more actions makes things moe entertaining!

I tried some scum-only roles like Kill-immune Cult Leader, but I assumed I was denied because I couldn't become a cult leader, not because it was scum-only.

Everyone was banned from Cult-only roles.  However, it didn't make you wonder if other denials had a similar ideal?  Note that you could keep choosing new roles so long as they keep being denied.
