MultipickMafia is Neruz's new Mafia game. Currently in signups\discussion stage. This game will begin after Neruz's Vectors Bastard Mafia ends, assuming enough people have signed up. If not, signups will remain open until sufficient people are gotten.

The idea behind MultipickMafia is simple. At the game start, i will post a list of roles from the Xylbot list (the saner ones. Don't expect Chuck Norris or Jackie Chan). There will be 1 less number of roles than there are people. I will also post a series of 'modifiers' that will get applied semi-randomly to roles after they have been chosen.

At this point, each player PM's me the role they want from the list, if two or more players pick the same role, all players who pick that role will instead get the vanilla version of their role (Townie, Mafioso, SK etc).


Once i have a list of all the roles, i'll distribute the modifiers as appropriate using random.org, but adjusting if it is too heavily skewed one way or the other.


EXAMPLE LIST FOLLOWS:


7 Man Game, role list is:

Cop
Bus Driver
Crazed Fiend
Copycat
Delayer
Double Voter


Possible Modifiers are:
Miller
Kill-Immune
Insane
Action-Immune


Possible Alignments:
Town
Mafia
Serial Killer


Note that not all modifiers may occur, some might not enter into the game.
Note that alignments are possibilities, not all alignments may enter into the game. It is guaranteed that at least 1 town and 1 scum will be in the game, nothing more.


This is a Semi-Open setup!
I will not lie to you, but i may not give you all the information.
All possible roles will be known, but not how many scum or if a role was cancelled out or not.





If you have any thoughts or critisism. Make them here. If you want to sign up, do so. I am currently torn between giving out alignments before or after picking roles. So discuss that.

Alignments before roles would add more strategizing to role choices, it would also be more powerful for the mafya.

How about some roles are different for the mafia than they are for the town?  So, like

Cop/ Rolecop
Death Miller/ Death Antimiller

Which means you could possibly want to pick some of the roles just to block scum from getting them.

Scrap allignments, I like luck of the draw. So, roles could be miller/godfather, town doc/scum doc, ect.

There'd be no reason NOT to pick cop, then. I think it's better to have to choose between cop to stop the town from getting it and rolecop to actually help yourself.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

'Miller' in this instance means 'shows up as opposite alignment', so Scum show Town and Town show Scum.

As Mr.Person said, making a role beneficial to both sides means that there's no reason not to have someone choosing it, if you get it, you get a powerful role. If you lose it, you deny the town a powerful role.

If you just have it as cop though, then the Mafia have a problem; do they pick Cop and deny it to the Town, but get a near useless role in return? Or do they pick something that's more likely to be of use to them.

No, you're looking at it from the town's PoV. Look at it from the scum's PoV. Do you take the Cop to stop the town from getting information or do you take the Role Cop to figure out the town's PR? The town would look at it as taking the Cop to know alignment or taking the Role Cop both because you still might find scum but also to block the scum from finding the town PR. Personally, I think the Role Cop is a stronger choice for both the town and the scum, but you have to keep in mind that you pretty much can't fakeclaim.

I think you need some slightly different roles from those ones. Maybe randomize a huge list.

Like, where's Doctor? Or Roleblocker?

Meh.  bring on a huge stack of the Xylbot roles and just weed out the OP ones.

IMO, when in doubt, offer the entire list.  Worked when I needed a HUGE role list ;)

This is probably the best idea.

Except I don't like Action/Kill-Immune. It's too overpowered.

Bah, screw Xylbot roles.  I feel like this game needs a smaller spread of choices--like (players) + 2 or so.  Otherwise, a lot of the decision-making process is going to turn into "Whatever, I'll pick this one.  There's too damned many roles on this list, anyway."

I say this mostly by virtue of the utter pain that was role-choosing in KWN:DE, when there weren't even any penalties for choosing what someone else had chosen and I knew what everyone else was doing.  Too many possibilities results in no choosing whatsoever.
