Dwarven Baby Snatchers?
« on: January 18, 2010, 12:55:02 am »

I recently discovered the power of worldgen.

In a bloodline game on another forum, I recently discovered a dwarf assisting in a goblin ambush. The thing is, this dwarf was abducted from her home by another dwarf.

Does this happen often?

the dwarf was caught as a baby and was raised basically as a goblin. so pretty much yes.

Actually, no.

She was born to abducted parents. She had never even experienced Dwarven society. She was, in essence, a goblin.

However, she was murdered by a goblin with a name of Incestelbow.

I find goblins often murder each other for no apparent reason.

In some of my worlds, though, there are goblin civs that consist almost entirely of elves, with elf leaders, even, due to all the baby-snatching.

Worldgen causes some funky things.  It's not entirely uncommon for a long enough worldgen to create goblin civs that simply don't have goblins in them.  Strange though, that means that 1000 years after the goblins died off, the elves/dwarves/humans/etc managed to keep their culture strong.  Goblins are the ultimate in world peace, by assimilating everyone.  Resistance is futile. :D

I've had human civs with elf leaders too, actually.  From what I can tell, in one case what happened was that the human civ annihilated an elf civ, and the elves from the last forest retreat had nowhere to go and became (non-enslaved) members of the human civ, and their descendants later became leaders of the human civ, which, due to the extended human-elf wars now consisted entirely of forest retreats.  I started adventure mode as a human, in a forest retreat full of elves.  It was bizarre.

I love reading complicated worldgens.  I once made a mix of the standard five along with orcs, hobgoblins, bugbears, and frost giants who had all been marked as babysnatchers.  It was fun to see which species got totally replaced by which others.   :D
