Heh Help!
« on: January 17, 2010, 09:16:13 pm »

Well im trying to fill my massive magma reservoir for my smelters, forges, etc.  And in an unlucky lucky twist of fate when i was hollowing out this space there was the very top of a  magma tube in the upper left corner.  I put two pumps from the magma pipe itself to feed the right side of the reservoir and when i discovered the magma tube i put another pump to feed the room from the left side....My question is that the magma is falling through the open space into the magma tube, will the tube ever fill up, or will it act as a permanet drain of both the magma and my soul?

I think it will fill up and overflow. A river drains because it comes in one side and goes out the other, but I'm pretty sure magma pipes just check if they're full, and if not, spawn more magma.

Greiger's is actually correct...  sadly enough.  The emotional circumstance processor is still turned on, with a randomly rolled up personality, but they can't express themselves or take control...  they can only cry.

Magma doesn't overflow. That's what separates it from water. That, and the fact that it's touch is death to Dwarf AND stone.

Are you talking about a Magma Pipe or a Bottomless Pit? I'm a little lost as to what exactly is going on?

I have to agree with shaostoul here, I really dont understand what you are trying to get at... You are appreantly pumping magma from your magma pipe. into... something?

I think he's pumping magma up somewhere, and some of it is falling back into the magma pipe.

No, he means magma pipe.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

No, he means magma pipe.

But in the OP he is talking about pumping magma from a 'pipe' into a chamber which is inadvertently cut into a 'tube'...

Good point - perhaps the OP would care to clarify. For reference, magma pipes extend down to the center of the earth and provide infinite magma, while magma pools are only a few Z-levels deep and contain a finite amount of magma.

I am guessing that since the topic creator has not made a 2nd appearance that he figured out the answer on his own, whatever it may have been, and completely forgot about this thread, leaving us to discuss amongst ourselves the mystery contained in the OP  ;D

I think that he meant that he dug a magma containment facility on top of / adjacent to / partially overlapping a magma pipe, and pumped magma from the pipe into the containment facility, but it kept flowing back in to the pipe.

I think he has a magma pool, AND a magma tube, and a pipe dream to use magma pumps to pipe magma via a tube to fill a pit.
