You know, just in-case some day we do learn how to save a consciousness AND time travel I'm suggesting we start a foundation, write up a charter or something at least.

The main goal of the foundation / charter will be to save every human consciousness throughout history and place it in a state of continued existence. Our agents will be called Angels or Reapers depending on the situations they will be forced to face, after all not every consciousness is easy to save or find.

It will also act as a shield against ever being discovered or remembered, the lore of our people already has those as apparitions and dreams.

We must act now and get this solidified into our time-line.

paradise is very....humanized

I do not believe in an afterlife, although if I tinkered with the thought of it, I'd say it's not specifically tailored to the way a person would perceive it. No emperical sensations = not perceiving yourself as existing = even if you exist somehow in an afterlife, you would not be aware of it

the series died, but I wonder if the story ever ended, aside from the recent movie. It was such a great idea

The problem is life is better than death only right now. If you can truly never die, you end up in a dead universe and you just float around pondering existence forever, which would suck very, very much.

yes, exactly my point. it would be fine with an off switch once you're done doing everything you want to do

Wouldn't entropy get rid of you at some point?

Hey hey hey! What happened to the pointless and impractical philosophical discussion just a few pages back!?

Damnit! I need to know whether or not I'm the same person if my brain is replaced with an identical one! That could be really useful to know one day!

I think too much...

Anyway I'll explain that with my teleportation theory. If, somehow, someone managed to be teleported from one place to another, they would actually be destroyed and be rebuilt in another place, like a clone. Even if you used the exact same materials from one spot to the other, you have destroyed the concious entity (you) and replaced it with another concious entity.

Basically, the person would appear the same to everyone else, but you wouldn't exist, and the other entity would exist in your place.

There was a science fiction novel, the Commonwealth saga, that the punishments for murder became a lot more severe after effective immortality was possible. This was brought about by having a form of computer memory crystal in yer brain that recorded your memories up to the point of you dying or it breaking. Basically everyone had one.

And murder was quite uncommon, civilisation had expanded fairly rapidly into the stars so there wasn't really a need for much of the usual competition. But the punishments for murder were fairly heavy, since people could theoretically live for ever then a few years in jail wouldn't really server as much of a punishment. So the sentancing usually resulted in a few hundered (up to a thousand years) years in suspension.

the fun theory page was very interesting to consume. it gives more insight to how people would respond once certain aspects of desires and humanity approach infinity
