I don't know about that, I'm pretty sure I changed into an uber-militant leftist because of what I've learned.
That's an excellent point. Some things are surely part of who "you" are. However, I'm sure some parts aren't really "me" - I mean, if I suddenly lost the part of my brain saying "Hey, 'pointillism' is the art form of little tiny dots making pictures", I feel I'd be the same person.

"You know that Egyptian story were this dude did something bad and the god made him immortal and every day an eagle comes and rip his guts out because it hurts and they will grow back. That could be the new death sentence."

There was a Dragonlance book with that same event going on....it was probably a dragon or something like that

Its interesting that the discovery of fire is regarded as being "stolen" in these myths.

I guess even the gods had intellectual property rights.

Guys! What if someone invents immortality and then he copyrights it AND IT NEVER EXPIRES BECAUSE HE LIVES FOREVER? And then he's a jerk and never tells the secret?

I mean I guess he's entitled to his invention but it'd suck so much

I'm not so sure I'd want to live forever.

But live for a very long time, hells yeah. That would suck.

I would imagine that if he told the world that he knew how to become immortal, and then told them to dick off, that someone would hurt him.

Allot.

Living forever would be like playing the same DF instance forever....after every dwarf dies, and the landscape erodes away, and after you've elaborated over everything that has and could happen.
I think there was a Justice League or some similar cartoon with the lead bad guy living forever and recreating civilization from scratch. The things you learn from video games and cartoons...

But living for a thousand years?

If I could live forever, I'd explore the world to the full. Then, I'd die happy, unless I could explore other worlds. Suffice it to say, I'd die once I'd seen it all.

So really I'd probably end up living forever (until the chances of me being killed approach 1) but still.

A thousand years would be nice, or a metaphorical 'off' switch for when you're done. Towards the end you would probably end up with an existantialist's or even a nihilistic state of mind if there weren't enough progressively interesting things to keep your mind occupied

Being immortal is better than mortality, as life is better than death*.

*for most people at least.

true, being alive would be better than being 'undefined'. To think differently, you're not doing life right
