I really suggest this series, at least the first book or two, haven't read further than those at least.http://davidfarland.zenfront.com/runelords/the-runelords-the-sum-of-all-men.html.

It had a very unique (to me any ways) take on magic and fantasy. Link there should give you a better idea though.

Discworld: Truly the modern American masterpiece. And it was written in Brittain! It's just that good.

As fun as Discworld is, guys, it's not the only fantasy book series out there. :P

I, personally, recommend The Lions of Al-Rassan, and I will let the 77 (out of 117) 5-star reviews on Amazon back me up that it is another fantasy book that you should check out.

Discworld novels

Dust: the novel (a end of the world novel written by a scientist)

House of leaves (for those who like Jorge Luis Borges and bizarre haunting madness)

The Amok Journal (probably a collection of the strangest and most bizarre essays including some talking about the positive side of drilling a hole in your skull)

Hitchhikers guide series (as if anyone here hasn't read them)

Various Lovecraft and Kafka

Catch 22

I read the "Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone" saga recently. You might like it.

Away from Sci-fi, I am reading Stieg Larsson's "Millenium" trilogy and I'm finding it quite hooking.

The Ancestor's Tale by Richard Dawkins.

Backwards journey through evolution starting with humanity. One of the most fascinating books I've ever read.

I recommend the Age of the Five books and the Night Watch books.
I have only read the first book in the Night Watch trilogy but I think the rest are good too.
Also H.P Lovecrafts works.

Dune, if you haven't read it (I'm guessing you have.)

Lord of the Flies. Short-ish, and not too difficult to read, but deep nonetheless, not to mention profoundly disturbing.

The Mithgar series is really good too.

I agree on the Discworld series, and HP Lovecraft (Call of  Cthulhu, Whisperer in Darkness) is great.

The Gormenghast trilogy!

Also, anything by Poe or Heinlein. Neuromancer is good, to, if a bit unorthodox.
