-Excavate; Possibly via the "stone" menu.
-attack commands on specific bodyparts; The greatest fun in wrestling is being able to say: "I'll take out your eyes, Goblin!" Let's have that with swords too.
-framerate improvements; provides benifit for all players regardless of hardware or style. Clean code is stabler, too.

My votes:

Improved siege AI (tunnels, siege ladders, etc.)

Rationing of resources:
Have an option to ration food and water for all the dwarves in the fortress. Increasing the length of time before another meal or drink. Dwarves with impulsive, or rebellious personalities may break the law and attempt to gorge themselves with food. Consequence would be jail and a beating. Player-involed death of gluttonous dwarves would make for an interesting story.

Uses for fire (waste combustion, cremation, etc.)
Allow the use of fat or explosive materials, (like booze), to be collected and used in traps. (Squad of goblins get trapped in a room, fire pours in, all that is left is metal weapons.)

My votes:

1. adventure mode: skills from fortress mode for adventurer
2. adventure mode: improved dwarven halls
3. improved sieges (tunnels, siege ladders, etc.):

I think the "siege" suggestion should do without the "AI" part. The AI is a major part of improving sieges, but there are other factors, too.

Since there are going to be four selected, shouldn't we choose four? ;p

@ Zardus: Feel free to launch one, once the top10 have been selected and ordered.

@ Kagus: Thanks! Also, I appreciate people who know how to bump a thread decently   ;).

@ Appelgren: I've added the lever to the suggestion. Could also be mechanically combined with an alarm bell or something similar.

@ Ralje: Maybe we can do an everlasting top10-suggestions thread at a later stage. I already asked about the ten votes, but most thought it would only amount in more work to do and not change the result significiantly. I'd like to put it to the test, though. But not now.

@ Richards: I have changed the fire suggestion title to incorporate the traps

@ Lightman: Changed the siege suggestion title. As for the number of votes, read my answer to Ralje above.

-Useful nobles, ones that actually do stuff for you when you make them happy.
-Better hauling (pack animals, conveyors, railway carts, whatever)
-More underground diversity

I'm not going to suggest any gameplay related improvements as such since I'm probably not the bigger picture that's in the Creator's mind.

Having said that, all suggestions here must surely be by definition gameplay related but you get my drift.

1. Multi-threaded program code
2. Framerate improvements
3. Resizeable viewport

p.s. would it make any sense to combine the framerate improvements+multithreaded code suggestions since they essentially mean the same thing, or what?

I'd like to suggest:
lever -connections- listing in it's properties -> zoomto + selector flashing on connection tile when selected.

edit:
so:
1- Show lever connections.
2- improvements to worldgen. (player influence options)
3- Fix for dispersed stacks.

So many other suggestions are good as well.
Transportation vehicles, sieges, construction interface, etc.
