Really?
I always assumed dwarf babies did something like spoiler below when being carried around and just absorbed nourishment.

Thankfully, no. Hehe, a good reference to Total Recall though :). I liked it when I was a boy.

I love this forum. I leave after dropping a random, kinda "i haven't had enough sleep lately/its 3 am" type post and I come back to the conclusion that dwarves might be marsupials.

Also:
Migrants are either recruited and trained, or sent to work in the smeltery or hauling crap around. I LIKE having lots of dwarves.

"There aint no water in Drinkwound"-Drinkwound

You see, Drinkwound was my first marginally successful fort, despite the fact that I didnt know how to work the still for the first 2 or 3 years and there was neither rain nor a river.

I could not spare the water or food required to keep additional unnecessary dwarves alive.

Perhaps babies have some sort of strange ability to magnetically cling to their mothers? After all, last time I played Kobold Camp, two of my kobolds had five pups hanging off of each of them. Utterly adorable to imagine all these little babies just hanging off of anything they can old onto. =3

Going with the beard/body hair idea since it makes sense to have them near the mouth getting all the food in the beard--you shoot a dwarf in the chest and thats where the baby is hanging on hence why babys are arrow shields.

This inspires a reason for why there is no adoption, babies simply can't latch onto those without a significant relation to them (i.e. the mother) dwarven adoption ceremonies simply don't exist yet where crazy dwarftech, herbology and magic is needed to create this artificial relationship allowing the baby to stick to its new parent and be supported.

Though maybe itd be easier to implement beard trimming barbers and force a dwarf to cut a hole in their beloved beard where the baby can go in.

Wait five more years.

If he's physically strong enough to break Tarzan in half over his knee by then, then he's definitely Dwarven Mowgli.

Then watch as he kills his brother and founds a major city?

(This is how I'm different from everyone else:  Yall think "Jungle Book", I think Roman mythology.)  :P

I'm talking about the bronze colossus. It's supposed to be made entirely of bronze.
But really he's just a softie inside. They all are really. When megabeasts come to your fort you never welcome them inside and give them a hug, do you. You heartless bastards...

Yep, me too. Maybe because I've had to restart Centurion (the old sega game) about a thousand times today. Damn those parthians!

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Yeah, the dude who set it up was heavily influenced by the Jungle Book. I was a cub, scout and sea scout before I left Cornwall, so I know where you're coming from :D.
