So, I want to discuss this some more. Haven't played in over a week because I got so sick with recurrent tonsillitis that I not only couldn't work and pay my rent (contagious!), I had to go home to see a specialist and get well.
So much for a semester of working, right? Well in my absense, I found out I'm already addicted to this game. I did some online research and found out there's a lot of info we should have that isn't well-known or publicized. And I'm going to share it with you.
Little-known facts:
1) FAL has significantly less damage reduction over distance when equipped with a holographic sight. It also has reduced sway when equipped with a shotgun. A great piece of information, as the FAL can be a little difficult at close range, and the fastest switch to a better mid/close-range (even over secondaries) is the switch to an attached shotgun.
2) The new AK-47 has been given extra sway (negated only by ACOG) for balance. Really, only the ACOG removes this handicap. The sway will cause shots to be generally much less accurate, meaning you will miss a shot or two in every burst. Cold, hard facts, and the reason why the AK-47 isn't particularly overpowered. Its grenade launcher is the quickest one to switch to, but reloads the slowest. Yes, supposedly even slower than the FAMAS. Haven't tested it myself.
3) The UMP45 has almost nil damage reduction from a silencer, even over distance. It's da truth. It will still kill in a maximum of 4 hits, 2-3 at mid to close range. The gun doesn't really benefit from Stopping Power at all; at most it will give you a kill in 2 hits instead of 3.
4) The WA2000 does not benefit significantly from Stopping Power unless you are using a Silencer. An Intervention doesn't hold any advantages over the Barret .50 except that it settles after recoil at the same speed it returns to target, while the Barret will shoot slightly off-target if you pull the trigger too quickly a second time. This renders some people's choice of a bold-action 5-shot rifle very questionable. I've read in some places that it has a higher limb-hit modifier, and others that it doesn't. Either way you need a second shot after a limb hit with both guns unless you shoot a wounded target. The M21 EBR needs two shots for all but some headshots if not using Stopping Power, but has very low recoil and good accuracy even on follow-up shots.
5) P90 supposedly differs in no substantial way from the Mini-Uzi except that it has slightly better accuracy over range when used in bursts, and of course the larger magazines. I personally believe the Mini-Uzi turns better at closer range, but I haven't used either for a while.
As I go through the prestiges, I am trying all of the weapons in turn. The way I try a weapon is to use it until I finish every attachment. There's all kinds of other information I've personally found, such as a few of the weapons that don't suffer the huge increase in recoil from ACOG scopes. The M4A1 is one of those, something I love to use now that I've tried it on my third prestige with ACOG and Stopping Power.
