No, I wanted to be a captain under the general. But a footsoldier would do nicely as well.

Inteuniso, as I stated in the rules, the General is the captain. There is only ever one Captain unit.
But I guess Filiusenox could relinquish control of Captain Filurist to you and change his name to Captain Inte. However, Filiusenox would then not be able to control any units.

Peasant stubbornly refuses to help, and stays dead. What a prick.
Captain Filurist, screaming "FOR IRONBLOOD!", charges forward, running Imperial Guard 1 straight through with his sword. Imperial Guard 1 coughs up a little blood, then falls backwards, dead.
Imperial Guard 2, incensed at his partner's death, rushes at Captain Filurist and stabs him for 5 damage!

Captain Filurist sees his chance. After being stabbed, he takes advantage of Imperial Guard 2's momentary lapse in concentration, delivering a wounding slash. Imperial Guard 2 loses 25 health.
Imperial Guard 2, groaning from the blow, gets closer and stabs Filurist again. Filurist's armor protects him from the brunt of the strike, and he only takes 5 damage.

Captain Filurist, laughing madly, staggers back from the blow. IG2 breathes a sigh of relief, but Filurist was only faking! He rushes forward again and swings his sword mightily, cleaving IG2's head from his body cleanly. He considers mourning the death of the peasant he failed to protect. After looking around a bit for anyone nearby and seeing nobody, he decides to take a jovial dump in the peasant's corpse instead. He gleefully scampers about, wondering what his next move will be.

You can't loot corpses in this game, or equip things, or do things like that. Think of it as a turn-based strategy or RTS like Age of Mythology - you'll soon have many units all fighting.
