It's not a matter of difficulty, believe me, my brother and I are quite the strat geeks. :)  It's just to much work for what were looking for right now.  We'd like something we could jump into for 15 to 30 mins, set our tactics, make moves or whatever, then wait till the other makes his move in a day or two and do it all over again.

Although there have been some very good suggestions, we just don't have the time for some them.

Play be email is your best bet there.  Asking a server to host the data is a little over the top, what with having to authenticate and all.

That seems pretty much like dominions 3. you might want to try it out, it's made by shrapnelgames and there are a few PBEM happening on the forum already. It's pretty complex but after a while you'll get the hang of it. Also there is a website that helps out with the PBEM. I forgot what it's called but the PBEM's on the forums use it.

The only thing about dominions 3 is that they (for some reason) refuse to offer digital downloads for it, even though they do for other games they sell.

Certainly put me off buying it...

Dominions PBEMs in progress on this forum.

The server hosting multiplayer games menioned earlier is http://www.llamaserver.net/

They might not be selling it with download-option, but they sure as hell deliver worldwide. The waiting time is not too long, and you do get this crazy 400-or-somesuch page manual for a truly old school feeling.
It does cost 55$, which is quite a lot, but believe me, it's still good value for money.

Conquest of Elysium

Great strategy game for a group. Turns are extremely quick too. You get randomly generated maps, lots of monsters, a lot of very interesting leaders with interesting play styles.

The demo is very fun and is nearly the full version, except that you don't get to save and only get to play the most interesting characters. It's not that expensive either.

It's also very fast to learn, and you can win a full, fun game in an hour. Or die in a laughable manner in the first 10 minutes, and replay it for fun. If you want a full, epic one, you can play a huge map, with major cities to take over, fighting off barbarian hordes, golems, zombies, etc.

It's the light version of Dominions, and by the same creators too.

Conquest of Elysium
Shrapnel's site mentions that multiplayer is hotseat-only, so it won't do him any good.

How To Get Stars! For Dummies:

1. Download 2.6i; this is the free version. Guess what? The only difference with the pay-version is the lack of cheap midi-sounds.
Download

Or site and download 2.6jRC4

2. Play. Don't forget the tutorial. Good luck.
