Spay or Neuter your pets?
« on: May 14, 2008, 10:09:00 am »

With some animal health care skill. Have it so you can spay and neuter some of your pets, to prevent them from breeding out of control.

This should also be available for pets who are bonded with dwarfs already.

What is kinda sad... is if you just could say "Cats cannot be pets" you could simply use them as alternative source of meat and Leather.

That and don't forget that Toady is also thinking/planning of/to impliment(ing) a harsher vermin system where you will wish you had 50 cats.

There was a news story a long time ago about some guy who castrated his dog.  By himself.  With a 12 gauge.

Considering dwarves do not have that kind of technology, that means they'd use a crossbow under similar circumstances.  Ouchy.

Castration is pretty straightforward.  Probably undescribably painful, of course, but it's slice, yank, snip, and sew for the gentler version, or just a simple pull and chop for the wince-inducing version.

Removal of the ovaries is much more complicated.

I think Ill take this time to make a suggestion

Id like to be able to chose, to some extent, what animals constitute pets and what do not.

You can already do that, Neonivek.

Also, removing the [VERMINHUNTER] token from cats will make them normal. However, they won't hunt vermin, either.

I meant without modding of course...

As modding cats so they cannot be taken as pets but can be domesticated... is kinda like cheating

Edit: I found out... You CAN chose if a pet can be a pet or not... which kinda to me negates all "we hate cat" arguements... since I have no problems with eating cats

Neonivek: Not in the case of cats.  They ninja their way into people's hearts, even right before they would get butchered.  They are always avaliable.

Well in this case... I guess Id like it to apply to cats

Here is a question: Is there gods who have animals in their domain?

What we do to the male lambs on our farm is just tie a tight rubber band around their gonads. It is a relatively simple technique that I am sure dwarves are capable of. The balls just shrivel up and fall off after a couple of weeks. Not that you needed to know how its done or anything, just thought I would gross you out.
